Photographer’s Statement:
After working as a marketing executive for over 30 years, I started taking photography seriously in 2020. Like many others, I saw the pandemic as an opportunity to learn more about photography-mostly through online courses. Around the same time, I discovered my love of birds and nature. This dual interest has become the focus of my photography.
My husband and I have been living in Seabrook part-time since 2013. We were attracted to the area’s natural beauty. When we’re not here, we reside in Atlanta. Whether it’s in Seabrook, an urban nature preserve in Atlanta, the untouched wilderness of Ace Basin, or the stunning sea views of the Lowcountry, there are countless moments worth capturing.
What drives my photography is the desire to capture those rare and remarkable moments, those connections with wildlife that move me. My eye is particularly drawn to the beauty of birds – their intricate feathers, their graceful movements, and the stories they silently share through their gaze.
Through every photograph, I strive to create a portrait, freezing a split second where the creature and I meet in curiosity and wonder. I’ve called my website Captured Gaze because a majority of my photos seek to capture both the subject’s gaze and my own (and hopefully yours too).
The name represents the profound connection that emerges between us in that fleeting moment. Photography preserves these encounters allowing them to be shared and admired long after they’ve passed.
Seabrook is lucky to have so many talented photographers and even luckier that they so readily share their knowledge. Being a member of the Seabrook Photography Club has helped connect me to these remarkable people and has made me a better photographer.
I hope you find inspiration and joy in these photographs. To see more visit CapturedGaze.com.
