Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island Challenge starts August 2024

Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island is a non-profit (501C) and counts on grants and fundraising each year to pay for all the expenses. Our budget for the 2023-2024 school year is $100,000 (96% goes directly to buying food). Our fundraising drive will begin on August 5, 2024.

Kiawah Women’s Foundation also has a Kiawah Backpack Buddies program and is currently running their fundraising drive (you may have seen their sign at the roundabout). They support Angel Oak Elementary, Friersen Elementary and Haut Gap Middle School. This is a separate fundraising from Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island.

Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island has been helping hungry school children since 2014. The organization works with three Title One schools, Mt Zion Elementary, Lambs Elementary and St. John’s Island High School on a weekly basis during the school year. These school children get food at the school during the week, however, they are in need of food during the weekend. Our mission, working with the counselors at the schools, is to deliver once a week (Thursday for distribution on Friday) a bag of 13 different items of food (protein, fruit and other items) for each of the children in need. This mission is accomplished by the over 100 Seabrook Island volunteers who do the buying of the food and the packing and delivery of 425 bags to the schools each week.

It truly is all about feeding hungry children on the weekends. For more information go to backpackbuddiesseabrookisland.com

We look forward to your support in August when our fundraising drive begins.
