On the Road with SINHG this Spring

SINHG members have been fanning out all over the Lowcountry this spring. Learn more about their experiences.

The spring series of SINHG Trips included a stop at Jeremiah Goat Farm on Johns Island, where members learned of the farm’s sustainability practices, tried their hand at milking a goat and sampled ricotta cheese made from goats’ milk.

Some members got their inner ham on by taking roles in downtown’s Black Fedora Theater spoof murder mystery, Murder At The Redneck Reunion.

A visit to Deveaux Bank under the auspices of the Coastal Conservation League came just in time, as it has now been strictly closed to the public during the breeding season for brown pelicans. Members learned about the breeding and migration habits of the red knots, whimbrels and other endangered species for which the Bank is a crucial resource.

The SCDNR’s Marine Resources Research Institute was the focus of a morning tour for members at its historic Fort Johnson campus, where the rich marine ecology of the state’s coastal waters is monitored and initiatives for rebuilding oyster beds, offshore reefs and sustainable fishing are developed.

The fall series of SINHG Trips for members will be announced early in the summer. To learn more about membership, visit sinhg.org.
