Columbus Day/Indigenous People Day Holiday Hours

Columbus Day is a federal holiday but not a South Carolina state holiday. It commemorates Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas. Indigenous People Day is not a national holiday, although some states (not South Carolina) celebrate Native American customs and heritage on this day.

The federal holiday means non-essential federal government offices are closed and every federal government employee is paid for the holiday. The US Post Office locations will be closed with no delivery service on this federal holiday. The U.S. government recognizes 12 federal holidays: 11 annually and Inauguration Day every four years.

Since the State of South Carolina does not recognize either Columbus Day or Indigenous People Day as a state holiday, some businesses that are normally closed on a federal holiday may or may not be open. You should check with your local bank, credit union, school, etc. Some will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2024, and others will not.

The local holiday hours are as follows:

  • SIPOA offices will be open Monday, October 14, with normal hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Contractors may work on Monday.
  • Town of Seabrook Island offices will be open on Monday, October 14, with normal hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Vincent’s Pharmacy will be open Monday, October 14, with normal hours.
  • Post and Computer Center will be open Monday, October 14, with normal hours
  • Harris Teeter will be open Monday, October 14, with normal hours.
