To help better understand healthy aging, on Saturday November 2, 1:30 to 3:00 pm in the Live Oak Hall at the Lake House, Seabrook Island Village will host its second educational seminar on brain health, focusing on maintaining mental well-being. In the first seminar (October 2023), experts defined brain health for various age groups and strategies to delay the onset of cognitive impairment. At this second seminar, two different presenters will address how to optimize mood and mental well-being. This seminar has a different focus from the recent brain health seminar that was held on October 19. The November 2 seminar has a focus on mental health in later life with an emphasis on depression.
Advance registration is required. You can register at the SIV website: www.SeabrookIslandVillage.org.
SIV invites all Seabrook Island residents to attend free of charge. The seminar was orginally scheduled for March 2024, but was postponed do to bad weather.
The experts for this seminar are Mary Hart Bryan, MD, and Randi Curtiss, DO. Both are geriatric psychiatrists and faculty members at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) who practice at MUSC Health’s Institute of Psychiatry.
During their 45 minute presentation, Drs. Bryan and Curtiss will discuss the prevalence of mood disorders, including depression in older adults, depressive disorders and their symptoms, depression versus normal grief, effective treatment therapies for mood disorders, healthy habits and routines, and indicators for seeking professional help. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions, with significant time provided for discussion
We look forward to seeing everyone at this informative and educational program. Please register at www.SeabrookIslandVillage.org
