Halfway through its autumn series of SINHG trips, members have been fanning out all over the Lowcountry to learn about our vibrant maritime environment and its culture.
Close to home, members visited the lagoons and forests of St. Christopher Camp to learn about the reptiles and amphibians that creep, crawl or hop through our marshes and creeks, a critical part of the coastal ecosystem.

Downtown, members traveled to the historic Fireproof Building to enjoy an historically accurate and plated meal based on 18th and 19th century recipes, a multi-course meal prepared by chef Mike Webb and drawing on recipes from, among others, the Pinckney and Rutledge families.

And members took to the water for a two-hour tour of the Intrastate Waterway, traveling from Charleston up the Stono River as far as Hollywood, viewing herons, egrets, pelicans and dolphins along the way.

SINHG Trips for members will continue through mid-December; the spring calendar of trips will be announced in late November. For information about SINHG membership, click here.
