Seabrook Island Artist Guild (SIAG) welcomes Greg Barnes –
Demonstration – January 6 @ 1:30 pm at Oyster Catcher
Workshop – January 7-8 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at Oyster Cather
Greg got his formal training at Wake Forest University, receiving a BFA in 1985. Following college, Greg’s career path included technical illustration, computer graphics, computer-based training, and multimedia programming. Throughout those years, he always kept his art supplies close at hand.
In 2002 after 9/11, he and his family took a leap of faith and he began pursuing a full-time fine art career. Among his first commissions were portraits, where pastel became his medium of choice. Greg enjoys painting on location, and as a result of working quickly, leans towards impressionism. Strong design and a bold use of color round out Greg’s style.

Maintaining a studio in Charlotte NC, Greg travels the country, participating in art festivals and plein air events, while also teaching workshops.
Greg’s work is represented by the Grove Gallery & Interiors in Miami, FL, the City Art Gallery in Greenville, NC and O Be Joyful in Crested Butte, CO.
He is a member of PAP-SE (Plein air painters of the Southeast).

Get ready to dive in head first into this exciting 2-day immersion of landscape painting techniques, demonstrations, and artistic camaraderie. Topics covered will range from beginning composition and design, importance of values, brushwork, and color theory.
Each day will consist of one or two demos mixed in with individual painting sessions. Whether your medium of choice is pastel or oil, it is Greg’s goal that you will continue to learn from the experience long after the workshop has ended.
Please bring your own images from which to paint. Greg will have some as well if you’d like to choose from his.

Please contact Tina Mayland, tinamayland@mindspring.com to sign up for the workshop or with any questions.
