The Gibbes Museum will again host Art Charleston, April 23-27, 2025. This is a five-day focus on the visual arts offering signature events, unique experiences, artist lectures, panel discussions, gallery walks, professional workshops, and exhibition tours led by experts. Art Charleston is our city’s premier visual arts event.
This year’s theme is inspired by the exhibition Statement Pieces: Contemporary Fashion Design and the Gibbes Collection. Produced in conjunction with Barrett Barrera Projects, installations will juxtapose dynamic works of fine art from the Gibbes’ permanent collection with contemporary fashion objects, including couturiers Alexander McQueen, Gucci, and more. Expect education programs and events building on the themes of innovation and fashion, such as:
- Spool of Friends, a community art project creating a quilted painting in the style of an American album quilt on exhibit April 23-27
- Art of Design, a luncheon and lecture on April 23
- Gibbes on the Street, a foodie’s delight on April 24
- Sew Surreal, a fashion show on April 26
- Artisan Fair, a curated market of the work of locals artists on April 27
