In the words of the photographer:

My enthusiasm for photography began when I received my first brownie box camera as a kid. I went through many rolls of film documenting family vacations and events and much-loved family pets.

Over the years my love of photography has evolved from taking snapshots to focusing on what I love and enjoy the most to shoot- landscape, nature, and bird and wildlife photography.

In January of this year my sister-in-law and I traveled to Costa Rica for a customized, private birding photography trip. We observed and photographed over 80 birds and were truly entertained by their social chatter, their entertaining flight and insect-eating habits and their interactions at the group feeders, which is where all the action takes place! Who wants to partake at the buffet table? Birds zooming in and out non-stop, shoving one another out of the way for that piece of banana or melon at the group feeders. The crazy antics of some of these birds just had us laughing hysterically.

Hummingbirds are nature’s tiny jewels and Costa Rica is home to at least 50 species! We had the opportunity to photograph the hummers in their natural environment, i.e., trees, feeders, flowers, bushes etc., as well as in a multi-flash session, which was an entirely new experience for us. And to our surprise, a few days later we were treated to a multi-flash session to photograph Nectar-Feeding bats in the dark!

I’m thrilled to share my amazing and extraordinary experience through a sampling of my Costa Rica bird photography. It will be on display beginning July 1 at the Lake House Photo Club wall immediately adjacent to the Live Oak Hall.

The Seabrook Island Photography Club is hosting a reception on Tuesday, July 8, from 4:30-6:00 pm. All Seabrookers are welcome to attend. Please join us at the Photo Wall!
