The Seabrook Island Utility Commission (SIUC) has completed the structural upgrades to our water tower on budget and on schedule. The work was coordinated and 75% paid for by the three cellular carriers that use our tower for their equipment.
The work included replacing and strengthening the lateral and criss-cross supports on the tower. The round corral at the top of the tower was also strengthened to allow the three area cellular carriers to upgrade their equipment. The water tower was then repainted.

T-Mobile has nearly finished placing their new equipment on the water tower and removing their old equipment from the temporary tower. Verizon and AT&T will follow, with each company taking approximately two weeks to complete their work. Once complete, the temporary tower will be removed.
Although SIUC is not involved in the selection or positioning of each cellular company’s equipment, it is our understanding that the new gear each company is placing on top of the water tower should improve reception on the island.
