In recognition of Fire Prevention Week 2026, Seabrook Island Village is pleased to host a community fire safety workshop presented by St. John’s Fire District on Friday, October 9, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm in Live Oak Hall at the Lake House. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.” The workshop will highlight the growing importance of lithium-ion battery safety, proper charging practices, and simple steps you can take to reduce home fires.
Chief Fire Marshal Tim Pristatskiy will lead the discussion and share practical information on fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and services available through the St. John’s Fire District. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about common fire hazards, home safety, and actions that can help protect you and your assets.
Attendees will also learn about the District’s free community safety programs, including:
• Home safety assessments
• Smoke alarm installation, battery replacement, and safety checks
• CPR and AED training opportunities
• Senior home safety and fall prevention education
• Lithium-ion battery safety information
• Pet fire safety and emergency preparedness resources
Participants may sign up for any of these programs during the workshop.
The presentation will also introduce Community Connect, a free and secure platform that allows residents to share important household information with emergency responders before an emergency occurs. Information such as emergency contacts, pets, access considerations, and special needs can help first responders provide more effective assistance when responding to an emergency.
