The Sea Island Hunger Awareness Foundation (SIHAF), a volunteer-powered organization serving Johns and Wadmalaw Islands, has unveiled a refreshed brand identity and a new website, sihaf.org. This move unites its three programs, eleven community partners, volunteers and giving in one place. The new look and tagline “Rooted in Community – Nourished by Compassion” reflects the values SIHAF is built around: families, neighbors, volunteers and local partners nourishing one another with compassion, close to home.
SIHAF’s Blessing Basket Program brings this to life. Each month Blessing Basket distributes fresh, quality food to more than 300 families on Johns and Wadmalaw Islands who currently live below the poverty level. Through the Blessing Basket program, SIHAF nourishes these neighbors and families who face the threat of hunger every day. Many, including families and elderly residents have lived in the area for generations. Others are recent arrivals who have come to the islands looking for work and stability.
SIHAF’s Blessing Basket program, Water Wellness Mission, and Crockpot Cooking are administered directly by SIHAF. In addition, SIHAF provides tangible support through grants, access to volunteers and helps create awareness for eleven partners. Working together, SIHAF’s network is committed to bringing healthy groceries, meals and access to clean water to the island communities always with a deep commitment and genuine compassion.
“Our new brand says out loud what our community has always lived: we are rooted here, and we nourish and help one another. Our new website makes it easier than ever to give, volunteer, and see the difference that staying local can make.”
Shirley Salvo, Founder and President of the Foundation
The refreshed branding arrives alongside SIHAF’s 6th annual $100,000 Hunger Awareness Matching Challenge for 2026, a year-end campaign that runs October 1 through December 31, 2026. To learn more, donate, or volunteer go to sihaf.org.
