Seabrook Island Artist Guild will host a two-day artist workshop.
Karen Hagan
Wonderful Paintings from Travel Photos
April 7 and 8
Oyster Catcher Community Center
Do you have favorite photos you want to make into paintings? If so, this workshop is for you.

Karen has conducted workshops in Europe, the Caribbean and across the US, on how to create paintings from photos. Using your photos and medium of choice, you’ll create two small pieces per day— turning photo favorites into strong paintings that reflect your personal voice. Among her topics is the all-important start, the up-front considerations that translate photos into successful paintings. Look to sharpen your compositional skills, experiment with different paint handling techniques, and put color theory to work for you. The two day workshop is $200 for members.
If you have questions or wish to reserve a spot in the workshop, contact Gary Kunkelman at kkunkelman@comcast.net and drop off a check made out to the artist dated for the first day of the workshop:

The Seabrook Island Artist Guild (SIAG) is about to unveil something that is totally new on Seabrook Island — and it promises to be unforgettable.
All 115 members of the Guild have been invited — no, challenged — to create an original work of art for a bold new exhibition extravaganza titled:
“Treasures of Seabrook Island”. Each participating artist will submit an anonymous piece that captures what they believe is a true treasure of Seabrook Island — its beauty, spirit, wildlife, landscapes, people, or hidden gems.
The exhibition will feature a stunning variety of media including oils, acrylics, watercolors, sculpture, fiber art, inks, pottery, and more. The guild family anticipates there will be between 45 and 50 original pieces of truly unique art on display.
But here’s the twist…

Thanks to all of our players for joining us at our Mah Jongg FUNd-raiser on Thursday, February 26 at the Seabrook Island Club. We welcomed over 80 “mavens” to the Atlantic Room for a delicious breakfast of pastries and beverages, three rounds of Mah Jongg, a lovely buffet luncheon, a heartfelt drawing, a raffle for a Mah Jongg set, and an abundance of door prizes. We hope you had a wonderful time playing, socializing, and enjoying the company of old and new Mah Jongg enthusiasts.
A successful event is only as good as its attendees and volunteers… and ours were amazing!
Much appreciation to the mavens who shared their MahJongg sets at our event and our kind sponsors and donors-we couldn’t have done it without you!

Seabrook Island Village (SIV) will host an interactive presentation entitled “Getting Your Affairs in Order, A Practical Approach”.
Friday, March 27, 2026
1:00 to 3:00 pm
Live Oak Hall at the Lake House
The event is free of charge, and SIV invites everyone to attend.
“Getting your affairs in order” is a phrase that we usually don’t want to think about, because the phrase itself can bring about fear, anxiety, and worry. Instead of thinking about “the end”, how about working to get our affairs in order before we travel abroad, or before we relocate to another state? It’s true, we’re all busy folks, but it’s possible we put off thinking about “getting our affairs in order” because we don’t know where to start. Once we have our important affairs in order, we may feel relieved knowing that essential items are documented in an orderly manner.
Join us for an interactive session with Ashley Andrews, JD, of LaFond Law Group. In this session, we will explore a practical approach to getting our affairs in order, covering topics such as assigning power of attorney, tax considerations, healthcare directives, and other important matters.

Ashley focuses her practice on probate and estate matters, guardianship and conservatorship cases, and real estate closings and litigation.

Seabrook Island Shorebird Steward Training
Saturday, March 7, 2026, 10:00 am– 12:00 pm
Oyster Catcher Community Center
The Seabrook Island Shorebird Stewards perform a significant service to the shorebirds that visit or nest on Seabrook Island. No special skills are needed to be a Shorebird Steward, just a willingness to spend time on the beach interacting with beach walkers. Volunteers spend two-hour shifts on the beach greeting beachgoers and educating them about the shorebirds and how to protect shorebirds from disturbance. The Stewards can be on the beach any day between March 1 and until at least May 25. If shorebirds like the American Oystercatcher, Least Tern, or Wilson’s Plover nest on Seabrook Island, the season may extend through around July 6. Stewards schedule as many, or as few, two-hour shifts as they are willing to work. Each shift can have two people.
The training is for new or returning Shorebird Stewards. The session on Saturday, March 7 is indoors provided by South Carolina Audubon. It teaches why Stewards are so essential and valuable. Participants will learn how to interact with people, be introduced to the educational material available to use while on the beach and discover information about the birds they might see. Additional field training will occur through a process of mentorship with seasoned Stewards.
Teens 14-18 years old may register as shorebird stewards but must be accompanied by a parent while on the beach. Both parent and teen will be required to complete classroom, field training & mentor session.
Please register for training no later than March 3, 2026. All registrants will receive a confirmation letter the day prior the event.
