Alan Fleming Welcome Party on Thursday, October 8th

Seabrookers are now welcome to join the players and organizers of the 2015 Alan Fleming Tennis Tournament at the Welcome Party to be held on Thursday, October 8th. The Welcome Party officially opens the Alan Fleming Tournament scheduled for October 7th – 11th at our own Seabrook Island Racquet Club. Limited tickets are available so please reserve your place early.

The party’s theme will celebrate the Grand Slam Tennis Tournaments of Professional tennis.
Your $35 entry ticket will insure you get great food, your choice of beer and wine, opportunities to purchase raffle tickets for great prizes to benefit Respite Care Charleston, and to socialize with the amateur players attending this year’s event. The Welcome Party will be held in the Atlantic Room of the Seabrook Island Club starting at 6:30 pm.

Please call the Racquet Club at 768-7543 to sign up. The Welcome party is open to all Seabrookers on a “First Come, First Served” basis. Non- tournament players may place their name on a “space available “list prior to September 21st and will be contacted after that date with their confirmation.

Defibrillator Units Being Replaced

Dennis Nagy, chair of the SIPOA Safety and Security Committee, has announced that the automated external defibrillator units (AEDs) owned by SIPOA are being replaced because the manufacturer will soon stop supporting the older equipment through parts supply. While few of the AEDs have been used, they can be critical to saving the life of someone suffering a cardiac arrhythmia while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

The AEDS have not only clear visual instructions but also clear audio instructions. They were designed to be simple to use even without any training.

SIPOA owns eight AEDs that are tested daily. Three are located in the Lake House, one in each of the three SIPOA Security vehicles, one at the Oyster Catcher Community Center, and one at the SIPOA Administration Facility on Landfall Way. As no employee is normally at the Oyster Catcher Community Center, the AED there is located outside to the right and around the corner of the building on the outside wall near the pool.

Seabrook Island Club Recognized for Environmental Excellence

The Seabrook Island Club has retained its designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program. Sean Hardwick, Director of Golf Course Maintenance, led the effort to maintain sanctuary status on this course and is being recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International. Seabrook Island Club was designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 1996 and is one of 894 courses in the world to currently be designated as such. Executive Summary: The Seabrook Gateway Task Force is a subcommittee of the SIPOA Planning Committee; its’ membership includes representatives from SIPOA/Town/Club. The Task Force has been studying what can be done to improve the welcoming experience at the entrance to Seabrook Island. The Gateway Task Force has provided this summary of their work.
