Swim Around Charleston (SAC)

On Saturday afternoon, Seabrookers, Jeff Pompe, Derek Fyfe, and friends David Hennessey and Stuart Lazarus, (left to right in photo) completed the 12 mile open water relay, called Swim Around Charleston.

Sixty swimmers from 13 states jumped in at Remley Point boat ramp on the Cooper river, proceeded round the peninsula past Battery Point, up the Ashley River, under the Ashley and Cosgrove bridges and finished at the I-526 bridge. Despite 15 knot winds and very choppy water, the guys swim was completed in 5 hours and 39 minutes.

SAC was created 5 years ago by Charleston City Council member Kathleen Wilson, who not only is the principle harpist for the Charleston Orchestra but is an accomplished marathon swimmer. Funds raised from the swim go to tuition assistance for SwimCalm, her organization that teaches swimming to fearful adult and junior students.
