End Of The Rainbow, based on true accounts of the final months in the life of Judy Garland opens for a run from April 28th through May 15th at the Midtown Theatre in North Charleston.
The time is 1968. After a string of failures, Judy Garland at age 46 returns to London for a 5-week comeback run at the “Talk of the Town” nightclub, where she reconnects with her long-time faithful friend and favorite pianist, Anthony Chapman. Garland hopes that this series of concerts will help maintain her star profile, especially considering a recent bout of bad press against her. She is traveling with her new (and younger) fiancé, Mickey Deans.
End of the Rainbow depicts Garland’s charm and kindness, alternating with her constant struggle with both her drug addictions and her strained relationships with the men around her – who in this case, are committed to keeping Judy sober.
While billed as a play, there are lots of laughs, intermittent music and singing of classic Garland songs you know and love, including: The Trolly Song, Come Rain or Come Shine, The Man That Got Away, When You’re Smiling, and of course, Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Performances will be at Midtown Cabaret Theatre, located inside the beautiful new Duvall Events Center, 2816 Azalea Drive, in North Charleston. Tapas plates and desserts will be available for purchase at the bar, as well as beer, wine, soft drinks and a signature cocktail.
