Charleston County recently sent out a publication on recycling. In case you missed it, here are some guidelines on what is recyclable and what is not.
Please do not put the following in your recycling bin: plastic bags or soft plastics, shredded paper, cartons, garden hoses, medical waste, construction waste, batteries (drop them off at the Lake House), clothing or textiles, light bulbs, electronic equipment/parts, food waste, styrofoam containers or packaging, plastic or bubble wrap.
Please recycle: office paper, cardboard, mail, magazines and newspapers, food boxes, note pads, plastic bottles and containers, aluminum and steel cans, glass jars and bottles.

That article was not very helpful. I went to the Horry County Waste Management website and it says that cardboard boxes are fine but need to be flattened. I guess that’s the answer.
Things that are not to go into your recycle bin, go into the trash bin for the examples you gave (bubble wrap, styrofoam containers, etc.
I would suggest that you go to the website of Charleston County’s Environmental Management Department. If it doesn’t answer your questions, there is a phone number and email address.
Where do we put articles not for recicle??
Eg bubble wrap, stiro containers all this will go to the landfill
Better to go back to paper, glass and alu cans. To be clear.
I recently received a publication from Charleston County stating shredded paper MUST be in CLEAR plastic bags. Now no shredded paper is permitted? it would be most helpful to have an accurate list of what is acceptable and what should not be placed in the recycling bins. What numbers in the recycle triangles are to be included and the numbers that are not acceptable. To make this work for everyone, rules must be clear and consistent.

We are reading “cartons” to mean items like milk cartons. Cardboard boxes can be taken to the Recycle Area near the Garden Plot. Thanks for the update. It’s particularly important because some items that are marked with the recycling triangle are NOT accepted locally.
Two questions. When you list “cartons”, does that mean cardboard boxes? I thought they were okay to recycle. Otherwise, what are “cartons”? Second, what about aluminum containers such as what food might be sold in? I thought that aluminum CANS were okay but not containers. Is that correct?
What is the difference between cartons and cardboard? Are we not allowed to recycle corrugated cardboard boxes?
