The exit from Interstate 26 to King Street will be closed for approximately 3 years. If you occasionally travel to downtown Charleston that way, you will have to take an alternate route.
Construction crews will be working on a drainage system until 2019 according to both the Post and Courier and News 2 (NBC).
There are three other routes available from I-26 to King Street. You can take the Rutledge Avenue exit, go via Sheppard Street or get off at Meeting Street.
The Post and Courier has the complete story as well as more detailed directions to King Street. The link to their story is http://www.postandcourier.com/charleston_sc/city-announces-three-detours-to-get-around-closed-king-street/article_3fa9b804-d385-11e6-96cb-c338ae623892.html
News 2 has a map showing the alternate routes in their story about the construction. That link is http://counton2.com/2017/01/05/king-street-exit-ramp-from-i-26-to-close-for-drainage-work/
