Topic: Cold War in the Middle East: Behind the Headlines, Face-Off between Iran and Saudi Arabia

Description: This serious dynamic pits Shia and Persian Iran against the Sunni and Arab Saudi Arabia. It underlines much of the tension and violence in the region.

Speakers: Professor John Creed, who leads the Middle East studies program at the College of Charleston, will discuss the issue from the Iranian perspective. He has spent much time in the Middle East, most recently conduction research in Jordan. Al Thibault, WACC program chair, will focus on Saudi Arabia. He headed the political section of the U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia where he was later deputy Ambassador and U.S. Charge d’Affaires. He continues to follow Saudi affairs closely.
