An Executive Order recently issued by the Trump Administration would return areas of the Mid- and South Atlantic to consideration for offshore oil and gas drilling. On May 23, 2017, Town Council passed a motion authorizing the Mayor to write to the Governor and Congressional Delegates about the Town’s position on this. The letter re-states the Town’s 2015 opposition to offshore drilling in our region and expresses concern about the Order’s less stringent standards for marine safeguards and environmental protections.
