Turtle Patrol Report – Week Ending July 29

July 23 Nest 26!
nest #26 -18Beverly Stribling and Nancy Pondelik texted a picture of a disturbance in the sand 50 feet short of the first flag in front of Camp St. Christopher. Bill and Linda Nelson responded and confirmed not only was it a crawl but found the eggs! The 70 eggs were moved 100 yards further up the beach. Nest 26 is Nancy’s first nest!

Inventory Results for Nest 5
Nest 5 was found by Francie and Rick Segal. The nest had 145 eggs, four were broken inside the nest. It hatched in 55 days.

July 24 Nest 27!
nest #27 18Walkers on North Beach called with a promising crawl just north of Boardwalk 1. Judy Morr and Jim Lawrence were dispatched to probe and Judy found nest 27. The 84 eggs were relocated to higher ground just a few yards north. The walkers group of Lynda Zegers, Lori Porwoll, Pam Salvestrini and Ruby Jenkins moved the nest.

July 26 Nest 28!
nest #28 - 18Chris Palmer and Gayle Evans had a great morning! Chris called to report that he and Gayle found a crawl near the Camp’s boat house. Bill Middleton and Judy Morr responded and found the eggs hidden underneath the wrack. Gayle and Chris moved the 75 eggs for Nest 28 about 15 yards further back at the north end of the boat house. This is Chris’s first nest ever and Gayle‘s first of the year.

Inventory Results for Nest 4
Nest 4 was found by Ruth Ann Henderer, Kathy Chamberlain, Kathy Francis and Pat and Valerie Luzadder. The nest was left in situ. Earlier predation by raccoons resulted in the loss of 30 eggs. It hatched in 58 days.

Inventory Results for Nest 6
Nest 6 was found by Martha Goldstein, Bill and Linda Nelson, and Mary Zamora. The nest had 112 eggs, three were broken inside the nest and two were reported predated by crabs. It hatched in 54 days. There were two crab holes near the bottom of the nest.
