The Town of Seabrook Island issued the Beach Patrol Report at their meeting last week. It covers the period from April 1, 2018 through July 21, 2018. Last month we posted the report from April 1, 2018 through June 23, 2018.
It is interesting to see what has transpired in just a month. The total number of violations has increased, but the good news is that the average number of violations per week during this period is consistent with the average number per week during the previous month, even though there were more residents and guests on the beach.
Again, the most violations (158) were for glass on the beach. This is a 36% increase over the last report. Please remember that if the glass breaks, tiny shards might not be visible, but yet would pose a hazard for people walking barefoot as well as birds and all that live in the ocean.
Leash law violations saw an increase of 44%, and the majority of these were in the critical habitat area. It is important that we remain mindful of these important bird resting and nesting areas.
