At long last, there is now an opportunity for interested people to volunteer their time directly with the students at Mt. Zion Elementary School. Anna Mims, the school principal, is asking for area residents to help Mt. Zion take part in this nationwide program. The Reading Partners Program is coordinated by the Charleston County Schools to meet the needs of children in the district. Please go to https://readingpartners.org/ for more information. If you are interested in the program, please let me know via email. I will send your name and email address to the school, then the school will contact you when the training is scheduled.
Your one-on-one reading tutoring with an individual student can take place either in person or virtually. Ms. Mims will plan a virtual information session for those who are interested. A school employee will train volunteers and everyone will be given a curriculum to follow with their assigned student. If you are hesitant because you have no classroom experience, it is not necessary; the training and supplied curriculum will be helpful and give you confidence. Any individual time spent with a child is beneficial and, not to mention, rewarding for you.
Thank you.
