  • Lowcountry Oyster Festival ◊ February 6
    The “World’s Largest Oyster Roast” is held every January on the spacious back lawn of Boone Hall. Highlights include live music on the main stage by Andrew Beam and the Bluestone Ramblers, wine, a selection of domestic and imported beers, a Children’s Area and a “Food Court” showcasing a variety of local favorite restaurants to satisfy everyone’s taste.

  • Webinar – Power and Powerlessness in the Plantation System February 10
    On February 10, 2022, at 5:00 pm via Zoom webinar, Shannon C. Eaves, Ph.D., will speak with you virtually about her research for her current book project. In this presentation, Dr. Eaves illustrates enslaved people’s articulations of the South’s rape culture and how they formed these cultural understandings and transferred them across generational lines. Through these efforts, enslaved people learned how to survive and navigate terrains marred by sexualized violence. This is a Donate What You Can Event.

    International travel may be limited during the pandemic, but you can quench your wanderlust (and your thirst!) at Magnolia’s annual International Wine and Chocolate Stroll on February 12, 2022, from 1:00 to 400 pm. Pick up your passport, souvenir glass, and first wine sampling in the Conservatory, then stroll to eight different “countries” (each with a locally themed wine, beer, and/or dessert pairing) in the beautiful gardens along the Ashley River.     Each winter, the beauty of camellias enhances the Gardens with thousands of blossoms. Special 11:00 am walking tours given by expert guides focus on the historic camellias, including the 1786 Reine des Fleurs, one of the first camellias planted in America. Tours last approximately 75 minutes.

  • Beauty & History: Camellia Workshop ◊ February 5
    Sidney Frazier, Master Gardener & VP of Horticulture, has dedicated over 46 years to overseeing the care of the oldest landscaped gardens in America at Middleton Place. Sidney, dubbed “The King of Camellias,” will lead this lively workshop, covering several aspects of the camellia plant, from its origins in Asia and its various forms to care and maintenance. Expect expert advice in planting, water, pruning, fertilizing, propagating, and disease identification and eradication.

  • Cocktails and Camellias ◊ February 26
    Mix and mingle at the most beautiful Cocktail Party in Charleston in America’s Oldest Landscaped Gardens. This is a unique opportunity to celebrate the vast expanse of camellias spectacularly performing through the winter across all sixty-five acres of the formal Garden rooms at Middleton Place. The evening includes specialty cocktails inspired by the gardens, wine, and small plates exclusively created for this event by Middleton Place Restaurant Executive Chef Chris Lukic.
