We are pleased to have Stan Ullner as our May 19 speaker. Stan is an award-winning photographer (and long-time resident of Seabrook Island). His interest is street photography with a slant toward finding geometric images in their natural setting. He processes and prints his images to museum quality on archival materials.
Stan’s presentation is entitled “Capture the Moment in Chance Encounters.” His presentation aims to reassure everyone that they are capable of achieving good images even with the simplest equipment.
This meeting is open to Seabrook Island Photo Club Members. If you are not a SI Photo Club member you may pay a guest fee of $10.
More about Stan:
Stan graduated from Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1967 and served two years of active duty at Parris Island, SC, from 1967 to 1969 as a Navy Dental Officer. Stan married his wife, Carol, while at school, and after the Navy, they returned to Ohio and he went into private practice. They have 3 daughters and eight grandchildren.
Stan has been actively involved in photography since high school when he worked on the school newspaper. He started on a press camera with sheet film, then on to 35mm and large format. He was introduced to a Leica camera 18 years ago which forced him to slow down and think. This took him back to the press camera days where he shot a football game with eight shots and would then contact print the result.
“While I was a good technician, I couldn’t call myself an artist at this point. The turning point for me was entering a Leica-sponsored class in NYC with Ralph Gibson. I started to look at light with a more discerning eye and explore what I was able to see. The hardest part was trying to define my own style.”
