The 6th Annual Polar Bear Plunge took place at North Beach on this grey, overcast, 59° New Year’s morning, but luckily it wasn’t 21° like it was on Christmas morning. Despite a cool breeze, intrepid swimmers of all ages and their fans gathered waiting for the countdown to the plunge. The large and enthusiastic crowd made its way to the shoreline, and as the countdown concluded, approximately 100 hearty swimmers leapt into the chilly Atlantic as onlookers watched in amazement while clicking photos! Some plungers quickly returned to warming towels while others lingered in the surf. A bonfire and hot chocolate awaited both participants and supporters!
As the photos convey, it was a terrific morning on the beach and a good time was had by all, including dogs. Thanks to The Lake House staff for organizing this event and thanks to all who made the plunge or cheered them on!
