Photographer’s Statement:
My interest in photography began in the mid 1950’s when, as an elementary student, I accompanied my dad as he photographed weddings. I was his assistant, handing him one tray of film at a time for his Speed Graphic camera, as he hurried to change the individual flash bulb and prepare for the next shot.
Perhaps the most challenging photography of my life came in a five-year period of volunteering for the Hospice Unit of Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. As the volunteer photographer for the unit, I was called on short notice to photograph infants who often passed away hours after I photographed them. I was determined that the families would have professional pictures that documented the details of their child.
We visited Seabrook for 22 years before buying in 2020 and I would spend most of my vacation photographing the nature and wildlife on our beautiful island as well as documenting our children and grandchildren at Seabrook.
Living here and being able to photograph on an almost daily basis is a dream come true for me! I am totally in love with our island and have a special place in my heart for the dolphins. As a volunteer for Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network, I spend countless hours watching these beautiful creatures. I have met so many wonderful residents and visitors at the inlet and made many new friends.
The Seabrook Island Photography Club has given me a group of fellow photographers to learn with and further develop my passion for photography. Come join us!
