St. Christopher Camp 2024 Deveaux Bank Birding and Kayak Tour

Attention all bird and kayak enthusiasts! The St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center’s Outdoor Encounters program invites you to join us on our annual Deveaux Bank Birding and Kayak Trip for 2024. The 3-hour tour will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, beginning at 1:00 pm.

The original trip scheduled for October 19 had to be canceled due to high winds. Spots are now open for the rescheduled trip.

The trip includes paddling with tandem or single sit-on-top kayaks from St. Christopher’s beach on Seabrook Island to Deveaux Bank, with around 1 hour of exploring and birding along Deveaux’s intertidal zone. Deveaux Bank is one of the premier East Coast seabird sanctuaries north of Florida with thousands of birds nesting and migrating through every year. An assortment of species – including American white pelicans and piping plovers – frequent the bank’s shores. Because of Deveaux’s importance, we ask that all guests adhere to SCDNR regulations by staying below the high tide line not designated as a nesting area.

Spots are limited on a first-come, first-served basis, so you may be placed on a waitlist. The cost is $75 per person. If you are interested in joining us for the 2024 trip, please fill out the form by following this link.

*Please be mindful of the more vigorous nature of this kayaking trip and if there is anything that may prevent you from fully participating.*

If you have any questions, contact Tyler Harris, Assistant Director of Barrier Island, at tharris@stchristopher.org. We look forward to exploring Deveaux with you!
