Friday, February 7, 2025
10:00 – 11:30 am
Oyster Catcher Community Center

In this hands-on workshop, Dr. David Anderson, physical therapist and head of Roper St. Francis Home and Hospice services, will present guidance for assistance and support in keeping yourself and others safe when moving. Faculty and doctoral students from the Physical Therapy Program at Charleston Southern University will work individually with participants.

Attendees will be individually guided in using common assistive devices, such as “gait belts”, “auto door canes” and other techniques. Attendees will learn the use of walkers in helping yourself and others, how to assist people who are falling, and how to protect yourself while helping others, such as where to stand, how to hold others and help with balance.

Laurie Lybrand, MSW, head of Palliative Care Services at Roper, will be available to answer questions concerning community resources and other strategies to handle mobility challenges.

This workshop is free and open to all. Please consider registering and attending this important opportunity to enhance safe moving as we age. To register for the workshop, go to  www.SeabrookIslandVillage.org.

Seabrook Island Village sincerely thanks The Joanna Foundation for providing the mobility devices to use for the presentation.
