The Seabrook Island Page Turners welcomed Roger Jones, author of his semi-autobiographical novel, The Final Victory, to their second event held on March 16 at the Island House. The Final Victory is a novel inspired by the true events of a team of 20 men and women fighting cancer while competing in dragon boat competitions.
Following an Asian-themed luncheon, Roger recounted his experience as a cancer survivor, explained his motivation for writing the book, and used video clips to help the audience understand the rigor involved in dragon boat racing. Joining Roger on stage was Deborah Carson, whose late husband was the basis for the character named Thomas in the book. Deborah shared poignantly about her husband’s drive to compete in spite of his medical condition and how the dragon boat experience impacted both of them.

The next installment of the Seabrook Island Page Turner’s Author Series will occur in the latter part of October 2025. Stay tuned for further details, and if you haven’t already joined the mailing list, please reach out to seabrookpageturners@gmail.com to ensure you don’t miss future announcements.
