Closure Of Deveaux Bank

Deveaux Bank is in peak nesting season for shorebirds and seabirds. Brown Pelican chicks are hatching, Black Skimmers are incubating eggs, and other shorebirds are using the island to rest and feed. With so many people heading out to enjoy the water this weekend, here are a couple of reminders on how to be a good neighbor:

  • Deveaux Bank Seabird Sanctuary is closed to all landings (including adjacent sandbars) from March 15 to October 15
  • No dogs are ever allowed on the island
  • Report violations to the SCDNR Radio Room: 1-800-922-5431

Other good practices include:

  • Keep your distance from closed areas and avoid making birds fly
  • Never feed wildlife
  • Properly dispose of trash and fishing gear
  • Spread the word and report violations!
