Jed Christoph, the meteorologist for Channel 2 News, grew up in Charleston, South Carolina and has seen all sorts of wild weather here, everything from hurricanes and tornadoes to major floods and even snow. While attending college, Jed spent summers on Kiawah and Seabrook Islands working as an Emergency Medical Responder and ocean lifeguard, handling ocean and medical emergencies. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a degree in Meteorology in May 2020, before embarking on his first on-air role as a meteorologist in Missoula, Montana. During his three years there, he reported on severe winter storms, frigid temperatures, wildfires, and various other extreme weather events.

Now, Jed is thrilled to return to his roots, serving as a meteorologist at the station he grew up watching! Please join us for an interesting and informative evening.

This event is free for current SINHG members and just $5.00 for Seabrook Island Residents and their guests. SIV Presents: Getting Your Affairs in Order, A Practical Approach

Seabrook Island Village (SIV) will host an interactive presentation entitled “Getting Your Affairs in Order, A Practical Approach”.

Friday, March 27, 2026
1:00 to 3:00 pm
Live Oak Hall at the Lake House

The event is free of charge, and SIV invites everyone to attend.

“Getting your affairs in order” is a phrase that we usually don’t want to think about, because the phrase itself can bring about fear, anxiety, and worry. Instead of thinking about “the end”, how about working to get our affairs in order before we travel abroad, or before we relocate to another state? It’s true, we’re all busy folks, but it’s possible we put off thinking about “getting our affairs in order” because we don’t know where to start. Once we have our important affairs in order, we may feel relieved knowing that essential items are documented in an orderly manner.

Join us for an interactive session with Ashley Andrews, JD, of LaFond Law Group. In this session, we will explore a practical approach to getting our affairs in order, covering topics such as assigning power of attorney, tax considerations, healthcare directives, and other important matters.

Ashley focuses her practice on probate and estate matters, guardianship and conservatorship cases, and real estate closings and litigation.

Vote for Best Restored Beach

The American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. To celebrate, they are having a vote to determine the best restored beach among all of the beaches that have received the award. Seabrook Island was awarded the best restored beach in 2016.

Click here or on the image above to vote for Seabrook Island!

For decades, ASBPA has celebrated our nation’s restored beaches to build awareness of their value. The annual Best Restored Beach award honors coastal communities that are both relatively new to the process and those with a long history of successful renourishment projects. In 2023, Coney Island, New York celebrated 100 years of beach nourishment! In many cases, the restoration process is so well established that beachgoers don’t realize they are enjoying a restored beach. In our 100th year, we are hosting a fun competition and invite you to vote for your favorite ASBPA Best Restored Beach. The “Best of the Best” restored beaches will be recognized at our National Coastal Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey, from October 5-8, 2026.

Shorebird Steward Registration

Seabrook Island Shorebird Steward Training
Saturday, March 7, 2026, 10:00 am– 12:00 pm
Oyster Catcher Community Center

The Seabrook Island Shorebird Stewards perform a significant service to the shorebirds that visit or nest on Seabrook Island. No special skills are needed to be a Shorebird Steward, just a willingness to spend time on the beach interacting with beach walkers. Volunteers spend two-hour shifts on the beach greeting beachgoers and educating them about the shorebirds and how to protect shorebirds from disturbance. The Stewards can be on the beach any day between March 1 and until at least May 25. If shorebirds like the American Oystercatcher, Least Tern, or Wilson’s Plover nest on Seabrook Island, the season may extend through around July 6. Stewards schedule as many, or as few, two-hour shifts as they are willing to work. Each shift can have two people.

The training is for new or returning Shorebird Stewards. The session on Saturday, March 7 is indoors provided by South Carolina Audubon. It teaches why Stewards are so essential and valuable. Participants will learn how to interact with people, be introduced to the educational material available to use while on the beach and discover information about the birds they might see. Additional field training will occur through a process of mentorship with seasoned Stewards.

Teens 14-18 years old may register as shorebird stewards but must be accompanied by a parent while on the beach. Both parent and teen will be required to complete classroom, field training & mentor session.

Please register for training no later than March 3, 2026. All registrants will receive a confirmation letter the day prior the event.

  • “One more Bowl, and Then?”: Punch Drinking in Colonial and Revolutionary America ◊ May 9, 2026

From the beginning of European colonization of North America in the 16th/17th centuries, alcoholic beverages for daily consumption, celebration, and ceremony were commonplace across all strata of society. Punch in particular became a favored drink in taverns and public houses as well as in the homes of the elite, and the materials associated with punch became a niche market for European and Asian ceramic producers.

Excavated punch bowls from Drayton Hall provide the background for the social history of punch and rum on the eve of and during the American Revolution, with an 18th c. punch recipe for participants to sample, in addition to two rums typical of what would have been produced in the American colonies and West Indies.

Click here for additional information on these and other events at Drayton Hall.

Click here for additional information on these and other events at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens.

  • Ink & Quill Writing April 11, 2026
