Footlight Players Theater – Lend Me a Tenor – April 22nd through May 8th

Tenor“Lend Me a Tenor” by The Footlight Players

The Footlight Players brings to the stage the Tony Award winning play, “Lend Me a Tenor” by Ken Ludwig for 10 shows running April 22 to May 8 at the historic Footlight Players Theatre, 20 Queen St.

It’s the biggest night in the history of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. Unfortunately, Tito Merelli, a renowned tenor about to make his North American premiere, is incapacitated by a series of calamities and someone is forced to impersonate him. What follows is a chain reaction of mistaken identity, mixed signals and absurd plot twists that are as funny as they are ridiculous.

Worldwide Anglican Leaders Visiting St. Christopher Center

Worldwide Anglican Leaders Visiting St. Christopher Center

BishopsSt. Christopher Camp and Conference Center has been host to a prestigious group of Anglican Bishops and clergy recently. Those staying at the Center now are from Uganda, Tanzania, Bolivia, Chile and Brazil. They were joined earlier with visitors from South Sudan, Ethiopia and Kenya. They have traveled here for the New Wineskins for Global Mission Conference. This conference was held in Ridgecrest, NC but St. Christopher invited some of the attendees to stay here before and now after the conference.

I was privileged to have lunch with this impressive group this week. When I asked them what they got out of this conference, one man said: “It was a good experience. We know that we are not alone, we are part of a greater group”. Many of the participants are missionaries and one explained: “the Christian mission does not know borders – even where there are bans”. Someone else added that some of the people participating in this conference have put themselves at risk coming here.

The New Wineskins Conference is held every three years. This year there were 1200 people participating from over 40 countries. There were presentations by outstanding preachers and numerous workshops. Those attending said that it provided a good opportunity to meet other people “doing the Lord’s work”. They valued the networking with others, the feeling of partnership.

SINHG Class on Reptiles, Amphibians, and Animal Tracking at Camp St. Christopher

SINHG Class on Reptiles, Amphibians, and Animal Tracking at Camp St. Christopher

Another fun SINHG trip! A small but interested group of Seabrookers took to the fields and hammocks of Camp St. Christopher to find out more about reptiles and amphibians as well as animal tracking. The group was led by Nature Denizen and Master Tracker David Gardner (Director of Barrier Island Environmental Education at the camp) in cahoots with our own certified naturalist and trip leader, Don Smith. The class began with David’s illuminating lecture about creepy crawlies after which the group applied—with good results—some of the things they had learned about animal tracking. Using sight and sound, and following animal prints, scat, and other identifiable markings, they managed to find and capture a baby alligator that was already caged in the classroom. Below are three photos: a group shot; David with his Egyptian Asp headdress; Judy Morr with David and pet Allie Gator.
