Chili Cook-Off Cancelled

Dear Friends, Donors, and Backpack Buddies Supporters:

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and all the necessary precautions around the spreading of the virus, we have decided to cancel the 6th annual Chili Cook-Off which was scheduled for March 21. We are saddened by this turn of events as this is our biggest fundraiser of the year, but everyone’s health comes first and the demographics of our island population is most at risk.

We will, however, continue the Gorski and Friends Challenge which is an additional fundraiser to the Chili Cook-Off. As you know, the Cook-Off is a fundraiser that benefits the Kiawah Women’s Foundation’s Backpack Buddies and Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island. Both group’s mission is to feed local, at risk of hunger, school children over the weekends. Together we feed 540 children every week. The results of the Gorski and Friends Challenge is usually presented at the closing of the Chili Cook-Off each year. Mike will still announce the results of the Challenge on March 21 at 4 pm, but this year it will be done through email, social media, etc.

Twenty-eight very generous companies have collectively pledged $28,000 in matching funds and now it is up to the residents of Kiawah and Seabrook Islands to match those funds. We are closing in but still need some help to cross the finish line before March 21. Your donation doubles in value for this great cause.

To the 28 company sponsors and those residents who have already donated, a big thank you. We cannot adequately express our appreciation for your support and generosity. We hope to raise additional funds in the absence of the Chili Cook-Off event, but we need everyone’s help to reach the goal. Making a donation is very easy. Just call or text Mike Gorski at 864-316-3894 and tell him your donation amount or send your check directly to Kiawah Women’s Foundation at 535 Bufflehead or to the Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island at 2460 Cat Tail Pond Rd, SI. If you send a check directly to Kiawah Women’s Foundation or Backpack Buddies Seabrook, please just text Mike at 864-316-3894 with your name and donation amount as he is keeping a “real-time tally.”

We appreciate all your support to our backpack buddies kids.

9th Annual Art Walk at Bohicket Marina April 20

Some of the area’s leading artists will be participating in the Sea Islands Chamber of Commerce’s ninth Annual Art Walk at Bohicket Marina. This year’s line-up includes the following Charleston-area artists: Kellie Jacobs, Susan Colwell, Bob LeFevre, Tina Mayland, Fer Caggiano, Sally Reynolds, Sandra Roper, Colleen Wiessmann, and Lisa Willits.

Each of the featured artists is well known throughout the region and looks forward to the chance to see one another, as well as the followers of their work. The show, which is always held the day before Easter, has increased in popularity over the years.

This year’s Art Walk will be held from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm in the parking lot of NV Realty at the entrance to Bohicket Marina. The artists are housed under one big tent, and the event is open to the public. Each artist will be displaying his or her own work, and all pieces are for sale. Many of the artists will also be painting live, so it’s a great opportunity to meet them and see their creative process in action.

Mark your calendars for April 20, the day before Easter. There is no better way to spend a Saturday than looking at amazing art in such a beautiful setting.
