May 25, 2018 features the Java Band – There’s no sitting at a Java party. They keep the music flowing from beginning to end. Both old and young are engaged and dancing the night away.
Their versatile style combines music including all genres to satisfy the music enthusiast as well as the person that’s the life of the party. Jazz standards, Rock, Motown/Beach, R&B, Hip Hop, and Country we do it all. Everyone who experiences the Java Band is left in awe of the amazing night they just witnessed. Performing all over the US, Java has some of the most talented musicians and vocalists around. Their energy, creativity, knowledge, and attitude are second to none.

Gullah Celebration
to Fight Island Hunger

On Saturday, May 19 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, the Green at Freshfields Village will be the site of the Fourth Annual Gullah Celebration to support the Sea Islands Hunger Awareness Foundation (SIHAF). The festivities will be held under the largest tent ever erected on the green, so please come, rain or shine!
This fun and fundraising event features music, a silent auction with over 250 items, craft vendors, and a children’s art show. Gullah cuisine as well as beer, wine and iced tea will be available for purchase. Live musical performances by Deninufay African Dance and Drum Production at 3:15 pm and The Lowcountry Voices at 4:30 pm will be among the highlights of the afternoon.
General admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets are available through the SIHAF website, www.FightIslandHunger.org, as well as at Indigo Books. Food and drink tickets can also be purchased in advance or at the event.
The Gullah Celebration is the major source of funding for the Sea Islands Hunger Awareness Foundation, whose mission is to fight hunger by providing healthy food and clean water to needy families from Johns and Wadmalaw Islands. Many of the programs that SIHAF supports are familiar to Seabrook residents who participate in them as volunteers. They include the Blessing Basket, the Water Wellness Mission, Crockpot Cooking Class, Backpack Buddies of Seabrook, Fields to Families, the Hebron Zion Presbyterian Church Emergency Food Bank, Meals on Wheels of Charleston, Rockville Presbyterian Church Meals on Monday, Sweetgrass Garden and the Wesley United Methodist Temple Take Out Ministry. Slated for an early June opening at 624 Freshfields Drive, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Parlor will take over the space previously occupied by Sugar Snap Peas, the children’s clothing boutique which has moved to 645 Freshfields Drive.
The Ben and Jerry’s ice cream franchise is well known, having initially opened for business in Burlington, Vermont, and gone on to having franchises all over the country. The ice cream franchise has flavors that have become legend, such as Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chunky Monkey and Strawberry Cheesecake.
The franchise will be setting up an ice cream truck all week-end over Memorial Day just off the Village Green. The hours the ice cream truck will be available will be posted on Freshfield’s Village website as soon as they are set.
What a great way to start off the summer.

3:00 p.m.- Eleanor Ellis (Louisiana): Born and raised in rural Louisiana, Eleanor Ellis has been an authoritative interpreter of vintage country blues all her life. Her songbook is packed with numbers by Memphis Minnie, Julius Daniels, Skip James and more.
4:00 p.m.- Beverly ‘Guitar’ Watkins (Atlanta): There are few artists left on the scene who have lived through and survived the heydays of postwar blues and rock ‘n’ roll. One is this legendary lady, guitarist/singer Beverly ‘Guitar’ Watkins, who spent her teenage years playing for Dr. Feelgood (Piano Red Perryman) and his band of musical rascals, The Interns, in the early 1960s.
5:30 p.m.- JJ Thames & The Velvet Revolt (Mississippi): With a diverse background in music (blues/gospel/reggae/jazz) and unstoppable sho(wo)manship, singer/entertainer JJ Thames is securing her place on the global stage.
Today’s annual Spring Festival at Freshfields was great fun for the entire family!
Children had the opportunity to enjoy fun activities that included a jump castle, an inflatable slide, a mechanical bull, face-painting, balloon animals, spring crafts, as well as performing on stage with interactive performer John Cusatis.
The festival also featured the St. John’s Fire Department annual Spring Into Safety event and the Seabrook Artists Guild sidewalk art and photography show and sale.

Island House Easter Egg Hunt
