Corn Moon
Join us on the beach for Seabrook Island’s Full Moon bonfire on Sunday, September 7, 2025. The full moon will be accompanied by a total lunar eclipse also known as a Blood Moon. The moon will turn a deep red or orange as it passes completely into the Earth’s shadow, creating a rare and visually striking Blood Moon event lasting for about 82 minutes. While the eclipse is a global event, it will only be visible from the night side of the Earth, primarily in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
The September full moon is the Corn Moon. This time of year—late summer into early fall—corresponds with the time of harvesting corn in much of the northern United States. For this reason, several Native American peoples traditionally used a variation of the name “Corn Moon” to refer to the Moon in either August or September.
Come enjoy a pleasant evening with a bonfire on the beach with friends and neighbors. Visit with existing friends and meet someone new. There’s always plenty of room on the beach for everyone, so invite a friend, bring your houseguests.
To keep things simple, each person brings what they want: food, drinks, chairs, and a stick of firewood for a big bonfire. Nothing will be provided but a beautiful beach, a bonfire, and a full moon.
Hopefully, the weather remains accommodating. People ask if the bonfire will be held if it’s rainy. The bonfire will be canceled if it is raining or rain is threatening, as few would be comfortable attending.
According to the permit, the fire must be extinguished by 10:00 pm. The later sunset and moonrise times give us time for dinner before enjoying time together on the beach.

Restoration efforts are underway on three adjoining preserved properties along Betsy Kerrison Parkway in Johns Island. These efforts aim to safeguard vital wildlife corridors and protect natural spaces that support both local and migratory species.
This work will lay the foundation for a new community nature area — a public green space that will include walking trails, native gardens, educational signage, and sweetgrass basket stands.
Join us for this informational session to learn more about the restoration efforts and help shape the future of this unique community space. Please RSVP to let us know you’ll be there! Space is limited.

Charleston County Mosquito Control
Spraying is scheduled for overnight
Thursday, September 4 – Friday, September 5
Charleston County Mosquito Control has scheduled a spray truck for Zone “K2,” which includes the Town of Seabrook Island. The treatment is scheduled to take place during the overnight hours beginning after 11:00 pm on Thursday, September 4, and will be completed before 7:00 am on Friday, September 5 (weather permitting).
As a reminder, mosquito treatment requests may be submitted at any time through the town’s website.

The Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol has scheduled the inventory of nest 27 for Thursday, September 4 at 7:30 am. It is located about 50 yards north of the dead trees at Camp St. Christopher. Please note that it is a long walk from boardwalk 9 which is the nearest beach access.

The first nest is nest 41i which is located about 120 yards south of the large cross at Camp St. Christopher. Following this inventory, the team will move to nest 28 which is located about 90 yards south of the “ no dogs off leash” sign at the Camp. Boardwalk 9 is the nearest beach access for both inventories.

Nest 24 is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27 at 8 am. Nest 24 is located about 100 yards north of the vehicle entrance at Camp St Christopher. The nearest beach access is boardwalk 9.
Nest 25 is scheduled for Thursday, August 28 at 8 am. Nest 25 is located about 850 yards north of boardwalk 1 which is the nearest beach access.
