Seeking Donations for Alan Fleming Silent Auction

The 38th Annual Alan Fleming Charity Tennis
Tournament will be held October 5-9.  This year the Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, located on Johns Island, is the beneficiary of our online silent auction.  Along with the auction we are planning a “Wine Pull” where everyone is a winner!

We are seeking donations of bottled wine (no boxes please) with a value of at least $20. If you would like to donate a bottle (or more), both
the Racquet Club and the Lake House have collection boxes. Final
collection pickup will be at 5:30 pm on Monday, October 3. The ‘Wine Pull” will be an ongoing event at the Racquet Club during the tournament from Thursday October 6 through Sunday October 9

This event was so successful last year. Thanks to the the community’s help
there were over 80 bottles donated. We wrap and number each
bottle, have numbered balls to pick from and for $20 (cash or charge)
a player chooses a ball and wins the corresponding bottle. All proceeds
go directly to the Medical Clinic.

The generosity of the Seabrook Island community continues to make a
difference outside our gate, something we can all be proud of. The
mission of the clinic is to understand and serve the health and
wellness needs of the uninsured, low-income adults who live and work
on Johns, James and Wadmalaw Islands.  This volunteer based clinic of
doctors, nurses, and support staff currently treats over 5,000
patients.

Thank you for your help!

On Saturday, October 22, Outdoor Encounters will lead a guided kayak birding tour to Deveaux Bank. We will lead a 3-hour guided kayak tour from 11:00 am-2:00 pm to observe multiple species of shorebirds. After October 15, nesting season officially ends for the seabirds and more of the island can be accessed below the high tide line and we will be able to get closer to the main bird nesting area. A Festive Fourth of July

Once again Seabrook Island celebrated the 4th of July with a wide variety of activities!

On Sunday, July 3, hundreds gathered on the driving range of Seabrook Island Club to enjoy music, food, and of course, the fireworks!

Under beautiful blue skies on Monday, July 4, more than a dozen cyclists and 65 vehicles rode a complete loop around Seabook Island. Creativity and patriotic spirit were the order of the day for the annual Independence Day Parade.

After the parade, the fun continued at the Lake House with the car show, jump castle and co-ed volleyball game.

Special thanks to Nic Porter, Jamie Mixson, and the entire Lake House staff for their work on the Independence Day Parade, the After Parade Family Fun Celebration, and the Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament. Thanks also to the Seabrook Island Club for hosting and the Town of Seabrook Island for sponsoring the wonderful fireworks display.

Piccolo Preview

Traditionally, the Kiawah Arts Council partners each spring with Charleston’s Office of Cultural Affairs to bring our community a sampling of the events they can enjoy during Piccolo Spoleto. After a two-year hiatus, we are pleased to invite you to enjoy an afternoon with Piccolo artists which we call Piccolo Preview. We are delighted to announce that internationally renowned musicians Natalia Khoma and Volodymyr Vynnysky will perform in this year’s concert, along with Charleston Opera Theater’s Saundra DeAthos Meers and Edward Brennan!

Cellist Khoma and pianist Vynnysky came to Charleston 17 years ago from Lviv, Ukraine, to teach music at the College of Charleston. They are the founders of the Charleston Music Fest, which brings the finest classical and contemporary chamber music by world-class artists to Charleston audiences. They are stunning performers, individually and as a duo, and we are fortunate that they will perform for us for our 2022 Piccolo Preview this Sunday.

Scott Watson, Director of the Office of Cultural Affairs, tells us that the focus for this year’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival will be on free and outdoor concerts and include many of the anchor events we have all come to look forward to. You can expect visual arts exhibitions, performances of classical music, jazz, dance, theater, and choral music, cultural events and community celebrations, poetry readings, children’s activities, craft shows, and film screenings. A full schedule of events will be released online in mid-May.

Date: Sunday, May 1, 2022
Time: 4:00 – 6:00 pm
Location: Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 871 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy, Johns Island, SC
Price: No charge, but reservations are required. Click here to reserve your seat.
