How would you like to see London theatre productions for $20, without needing to buy a transatlantic plane ticket?  NT Live, the UK National Theatre’s project bringing the best of British theatre live from the London Stage to cinemas around the world,  is finally coming to Charleston!

34 West Theatre Company at 200 Meeting Street has announced screenings of a wonderful series of plays, beginning on November 1st and 2nd with ‘Hamlet’, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

SINHG Evening Program – Thursday, September 17th

On TLOGO Rhursday, September 17th, Virginia Beach will be the first speaker of the Seabrook Island Natural History Group’s Fall 2015 Evening Programs.
She is the author of “Rice & Ducks” which records the history of the South Carolina rice lands, a landscape that stretches all the way from the Pee Dee River to the Savannah. It is a story full of interesting and memorable characters, and unlikely allies. They include English Lords, Proprietors, southern plantation owners and slaves, northern industrialists, powerful U.S. Senators, daring scientists, media magnates, Trappist monks, and Wall Street financiers.
Refreshments – 7:00 PM   Program – 7:30 PM   Location – Lake House

Freshfields Village – Cars and Coffee – September 19th

Calling all car enthusiasts! Arrive in your favorite ride and join us for Cars and Coffee at Freshfields Village on Saturday, September 19 from 9:00 to 11:00 am. The free event will feature antiques, classics, exotics, concepts and any other cool cars. Coffee and other refreshments available for purchase by Java Java Coffee House.

Charleston Scottish Games and Highland Gathering – September 19th

3640735a71c7316dd9945b5e91b5c7a6The Scottish Society of Charleston, Inc., a non-profit organization, promotes Scottish heritage, history and customs through the conduct of ongoing events in the Lowcountry which educate our youth and assist other Scottish-American organizations.  The games include Piping and Drumming Competitions, Highland Dancing competition, Scottish Country Dancing, Highland Wrestling, Border Collie Demonstrations, Genealogy, Celtic and Clan Tents, and Children’s Games.  New this year, the games will include Women’s Athletic Competition, Fiddling Competitions and beer served by Highland Brewery.  This event will be held at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. The 22nd Annual Charleston Cup Steeplechase Races – November 8th

Edisto Music and Shag Fest – September 4-6th

Shag the night away!  For those who know the South Carolina state dance, the Edisto Music and Shag Fest is one of the highlights of the summer.  This three-day festival at Bay Creek Park next to the Edisto Marina gets dance partners on their feet throughout the weekend with live entertainment by many local and regional acts and shag competitions.  Starts noon on Friday and ends noon Sunday at 3702 Dockside Road, Edisto Island, Free.  For information go to www.edistochamber.com

Lowcountry HogFest – September 4-5th

The Low Country HogFest will be held September 4th and 5th at 4704 Dorchester Road (behind Harley Davidson).

hog-fest-flyer-20151Low Country Hog Fest is a community event complete with a sanctioned Kansas City Society BBQ contest, live music, kid’s zone, custom car show, tattoo contest, beard & moustache contest, wing eating contest, and corn-hole tournament to benefit MUSC Children’s Hospital. One of the many ways to get involved is through the Adopt –A-Hog program.  Concrete hogs were adopted by businesses, organizations, and individuals and decorated earlier in the summer.  Come out and see the hogs on display, taste BBQ, drink beer, listen to music – – all to benefit MUSC Children’s Hospital  for more information, go to www.lowcountryhogfest.com
