Reminder: Shredding Event Wednesday, April 8

Now is the time to organize your files and discard old, unneeded, or duplicate documents. Gone are the days when we have to keep backup pieces of paper. Most information is now available online and is easy to access.

This is also a good time to go paperless. Many companies, such as banks, credit cards, and insurance companies, offer this service. Not only is it safer, but it can also be helpful when you are away from home. A bonus is using less paper, which is good for the environment!

Since most of your documents probably have personal information, you don’t want to just throw them away. The best way to dispose of these documents is by shredding them.

Refresh on Passwords

It can be annoying to log into an account on your device and have to change the password on a moment’s notice. It is almost as bad when you have to set up an account, and they have different restrictions than you are used to. Hackers have become more adept at getting through the normal passwords, so it may be time to think about how you are going to change a password.

The College of Charleston Technology Team recommends the following:

Use the first letters of a phrase that you can remember, such as Illatb (I love living at the beach).
Use a special character instead of a letter, such as @ for a or ! for i.
Embed the special character within the phrase, such as Ill@tb (I love living at the beach).
Embed numerical characters, such as Ilp22g (use your handicap – I love playing 22 golf).

AARP recommends using spaces between words, such as Hello Lovie Dovie.

Western Michigan University has compiled a great list of password suggestions.

Be creative, but be careful. The key is to make something that feels personal to you but wouldn’t make sense to anyone else.

Reminder: Art Show April 4, 2026

Some of South Carolina’s leading artists will be participating in the Sea Islands Chamber of Commerce’s 16th Annual Art Show just outside of the Seabrook Island gate. The artists are housed under one big tent, and the event is open to the public. This year’s line-up of juried artists includes: Jennifer Black, Sandra Roper, Lisa Willits, Betsy Jones McDonald, Tina Mayland, Cynthia Houston, Elizabeth Middour, Colleen Wiessmann, and Donna Geriner.

Each of the featured artists is well known throughout the region. The show, which is always held the day before Easter, will be from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The artists will be displaying original work. Visitors will see oils, pastels, and watercolors, in styles from representational to impressionistic to abstract. Some of the artists will also be painting live, so it’s a great opportunity to meet them and see their creative process in action.

Mark your calendars for April 4, the day before Easter. There’s no better way to spend a Saturday than looking at amazing art in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Garden Club Meeting April 10

The Healing Power of Herbs and Other Medicinal Plants

Date: April 10, 2026
Time: 9:45-11:00 am
Place: Oyster Catcher Community Center

The Seabrook Island Garden Club meeting on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 9:45-11:00 am will be held at the Oyster Catcher Community Center. The presentation will feature Athena Herder, Clinical Herbalist and Founder of Arizkatt’s Herbs. Ms. Herder’s topic is “The Healing Power of Herbs and Other Medicinal Plants.” Come join us to learn about using herbs and other medicinal plants for healing. Members are free, guests are asked for a $5 donation.

Bob LeFevre, a resident of Seabrook Island and Salem, South Carolina, retired from a successful career in business at the age of 55 to pursue his passion…oil painting. Since he was a child, he loved the water and everything related to it. It was natural that his paintings from the beginning would depict scenes of life on and near the oceans and lakes he would visit throughout his life.

Bob’s painting career began when, at the urging of his fourth grade teachers, he was enrolled in private art classes. Here, at this early age, he began to develop his perceptual skills as an artist learning the fundamentals of rendering and depiction of values in a representational way.

Keep Up with the Lake House April 1

Activities & Events

Spring Dog Pool Party – Rescheduled to Today – Wednesday, April 1, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Lake House outdoor pool. With spring just around the corner, it’s your dog’s turn to enjoy an afternoon at the pool. Click here for details. Once on the website, you will need to scroll down for the information.

Tour de Green Space – Monday, Sunday, April 26. A self-guided bike and LSV tour hosted by the Seabrook Island Green Space Conservancy in partnership with SIPOA’s Safety & Security Committee. The starting location is the Lake House, and check-in begins at 1:30 pm that day.

Fitness Classes

The Importance of Strength Training While Taking a GLP-1 Medication – Strength training is especially important when taking a GLP-1 medication because these drugs often cause rapid weight loss, and without resistance exercise, a significant portion of that weight can come from muscle, not just fat. Classic Mat Pilates – Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30 am from March 30 to April 22 at Oyster Catcher. This progressive mat-based class will begin with the foundational exercises of the Classical Pilates system, making it perfect for beginners and welcoming to all men and women, with plenty of opportunity to grow and advance over time. No prior experience needed – just come ready to move and learn. Please bring your own mat, as they are not available at Oyster Catcher.
Chair Yoga – Wednesdays at 2:30 pm. The April series meets from April 1 to 29.
Yin Yoga – Tuesdays at 5:15 pm. The April series meets from April 7 to 28.

Tastes of the Islands April 11

For the third year, Taste of the Islands Churches will host a fundraiser for The Feeding of the Multitude. Participating churches will offer a variety of food items for attendees to sample, along with a dessert and a silent auction featuring items donated by church members. Additional family-friendly activities will be available, including live music, face painting, and a jump castle. 100% of the proceeds will benefit The Feeding of the Multitudes.

Date/Time: Saturday, April 11, from 11:00 am -2:00 pm

Location: Wadmalaw Community Center, located at 5605 Katy Hill Rd.

Cost: $10/person or $40/family

Celebrate Passover

Passover is a major Jewish spring festival celebrating freedom and family in remembrance of the Exodus from Egypt more than 3,000 years ago. This year Passover begins at sundown on Wednesday, April 1 and ends Thursday evening, April 9.

Brown and White Pickup Friday, April 3

The next monthly Brown and White pickup is Friday, April 3, 2026.

Bulk items can be left curbside by 7:00 am. Place items including furniture, appliances, grills, lawn furniture, or other similar household items where you would normally leave your trash and recycling.

Hazardous waste such as old paint cans, electronics, batteries, fluorescent lights, and old yard or household chemicals can be taken to the Maintenance area (adjacent to the Community Garden at 2902B Seabrook Island Road) that morning between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. Please hand hazardous materials directly to the attendant on duty.

Before you put your used furniture or other items on the curb for Brown and White Pickup on Friday, consider recycling them with Sea Island Habitat for Humanity. Contact the store at 843-559-4009 for more information and to arrange for free pick up of large items.
