Lightning Detection System Update

Seabrook Island Club reported that their lightning detection system is nearly complete!

On Saturday, June 25 at 12:30 PM,  the lightning detection system will be tested.

The test will consist of one long alarm blast followed by three short blasts five minutes later. Please keep in mind that this is only a test. No action is required.

Please also keep in mind that if an error occurs during the test, the test may need to be repeated later in the day.  However, we hope this will not be the case.

In the future,  the alarm will sound when lightning is detected within a 7 mile radius of the center of the golf course property.  When that occurs, evacuation of the golf courses,  golf practice areas and pool facility will be required.

30 minutes following the last lightning strike, an all clear alarm will sound.  It  will consist of three short blasts.

The alarm will be programmed to only sound during daylight golfing hours. We are pleased that this project is nearly complete and that the safety and security of our members and guests will be enhanced.

One Response to Lightning Detection System Update

Shouldn’t “the safety and security of our members and guest” also be noted when the MUCH more subtle threat of rip tides exist….
