Seabrook Island Beach Restoration and Renourishment began Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Since that time, dump trucks, bulldozers, and excavators have been traveling up and down the beach. Several loads of rocks were noisely dumped on the beach by Boardwark 6. The noise was so loud, it was reported to sound like thunder!
Turtle season runs from May through October and althought Turtle Patrol has reported that all the existing nests have been inventoried, there is a concern that a wild nest may have been overlooked. SIPOA has asked a group of people to walk the beach each morning to check if there are any nests and/or hatchling tracks. If they find any, Turtle Patrol is contacted. Thank you to those who are doing this for us.
Please use caution when walking on the beach. Boardwalk 2, 6, and 7 are closed due to the renourishment and Boardwalk 4 is closed due to replacement of the walkway. Boardwalk 9 is now open after the damage from Hurricane Helene was repaired.
