Be Informed About Charleston City Council October 15

Sea Islands Action Network (SIAN) and Kiawah for Democracy (K4D) invite you to come learn about Charleston City Council and how this local governing body affects all our lives here in the sea islands. This is a non-partisan event that is free and open to all.

  • Date: Wednesday, October 15, 2025
  • Time: 4:00 – 6:00 pm
  • Place: Oyster Catcher Community Center

 To RSVP, click here.

Charleston City Council is a nonpartisan body with new representatives for Districts 2, 4, 6, 10, and 12 being elected next month for four year terms. Our guests are two experts, Leslie Skardon and Aaron Polkey, each running in different districts in the upcoming November 4, 2025, City Council elections. Leslie is a candidate in D12 James Island and Aaron in D4 Charleston Peninsula.

While those who live on Seabrook and Kiawah are not able to vote in City Council races, decisions made by the Charleston City Council clearly impact all who live in the county. This race matters for anyone who regularly visits (or drives through) downtown, West Ashley, James Island, or Johns Island. Charleston traffic, flooding, and development affect all of us, and we need more effective leadership to make progress on these issues.

Reminder: Shredding Event Wednesday, October 8

Town of Seabrook Island
Wednesday, October 8, 2025
10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Now is the time to organize your files and discard old, unneeded, or duplicate documents. Gone are the days when we have to keep backup pieces of paper. Most information is now available online and is easy to access.

This is also a good time to go paperless. Many companies, such as banks, credit cards, and insurance companies, offer this service. Not only is it safer, but it can also be helpful when you are away from home. A bonus is using less paper, which is good for the environment!

Since most of your documents probably have personal information, you don’t want to just throw them away. The best way to dispose of these documents is by shredding them.

Join Habitat to Raise the Roof!

Sea Island Habitat for Humanity invites you to join us on October 16, 2025, at the Seabrook Island Club for our bi-annual Raise the Roof Auction, an evening dedicated to celebrating community and creating lasting impact. Every other year, this signature event raises enough to completely build at least one home, giving families in need the gift of safety, stability, and hope.

Guests will enjoy a beautifully catered dinner with live and silent auctions. Every dollar raised goes directly to building homes and completing critical repairs, helping families remain safely in the homes they love and strengthening communities across Charleston and the Sea Islands.

Sea Island Habitat for Humanity builds 6 to 8 homes annually and completes over 100 critical home repairs, preserving generational properties and empowering families to thrive. Attending the Raise the Roof Auction is more than an evening out; it is a chance to make a tangible difference, connect with like-minded supporters, and celebrate the impact of generosity in action.

Tickets are $200 and can be purchased at www.seaislandhabitat.org/auction. To view the live and silent auction items, click here. Secure your seat today and join us for a night of inspiration, community, and purpose. Together, we can raise the roof for families in need, one home at a time.

Full Moon Bonfire October 6

Full Moon Bonfire
Monday, October 6, 2025
Location: On the beach between BW 1 and 2
Sunset – 6:59 pm
Moonrise – 6:40 pm
High Tide – 8:24 pm
Harvest Moon

Mark your calendars! Join us on the beach for Seabrook Island’s Full Moon
bonfire on Monday, October 6, 2025.

The full Harvest Moon isn’t just any moon—it’s the first of three consecutive Supermoons in 2025, making October’s full moon the largest and brightest of the year. The moon will be at perigee, its closest point to Earth. It will rise low on the horizon and appear noticeably larger and brighter than a typical full moon.

The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox (September 22 or 23). Unlike other full moons, it will rise about the same time for several nights, providing extended evening light. Historically, this extra illumination helped farmers complete their harvests before fall frosts.

Hopefully, the weather remains accommodating. People ask if the bonfire will be held if it’s rainy. The bonfire will be canceled if it is raining or rain is threatening, as few would be comfortable attending.

According to the permit, the fire must be extinguished by 10:00 pm.

Put the next date for the Full Moon Bonfire on your calendar:

  • Wednesday, November 5 – Beaver Moon (Super Moon, closest to the Earth!)
