Thank You from SIV

Thanks to all of our players for joining us at our Mah Jongg FUNd-raiser on Thursday, February 26 at the Seabrook Island Club. We welcomed over 80 “mavens” to the Atlantic Room for a delicious breakfast of pastries and beverages, three rounds of Mah Jongg, a lovely buffet luncheon, a heartfelt drawing, a raffle for a Mah Jongg set, and an abundance of door prizes. We hope you had a wonderful time playing, socializing, and enjoying the company of old and new Mah Jongg enthusiasts.

A successful event is only as good as its attendees and volunteers… and ours were amazing!

Much appreciation to the mavens who shared their MahJongg sets at our event and our kind sponsors and donors-we couldn’t have done it without you!

Seabrook Island Mah Jongg Day Keeps Growing

On October 30, Seabrook Island Village (SIV) ran its sixth Mah Jongg tournament at the Seabrook Island Club, this time with a Halloween theme.

Sixty-eight women gathered in the Atlantic Room for a fun day of Mah Jongg, which included wonderful breakfast pastries by Chef Christine, champagne, a delicious lunch provided by Chef Van and his team, lots of door prizes, and sounds of clinking Mah Jongg tiles all around the room.

SIV wishes to thank the Seabrook Island Club for all they did to help make this event a success.

Our thanks also to Lori Leary and her “mah squad”: Beth Wright, Bobby Robholz, Lisa McDaniel, and Betty Connell.

Support Groups That Help Feed Our Neighbors.

As the government shutdown continues, more families—including federal employees, service members, and contractors—are turning to food banks, churches, and community organizations for help. Many families live paycheck to paycheck, so even a short lapse in income can make it difficult to cover essentials like food, rent, and utilities.

Once the shutdown ends, it will still take a few weeks to get the money to people.

Also, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is not distributing funds to individuals and families who need assistance to buy food. According to the USDA, about 39% of SNAP participants were children, 20% were elderly, and 10% were nonelderly individuals with a disability. Again, once the issues are resolved, it will take some time to reinstate the SNAP assistance money.

Lowcountry Food Bank Needs Your Help

South Carolina food banks are seeing one of the highest levels of need in nearly a decade. As the government shutdown continues, more families—including federal employees, service members, and contractors—are turning to local food banks for help. Food banks across the state remain committed to serving their communities and ensuring that no neighbor goes without the food they need.

Founded in 1983, Lowcountry Food Bank strives to fulfill its mission to unite our community in pursuit of equitable, dignified, and consistent access to food throughout the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina. The local food bank is at 2864 Azalea Dr, North Charleston, SC.

Together, we can meet this need. Please consider donating or volunteering to support this important cause. Go to lowcountryfoodbank.org for more information.
