Shorebird Steward Registration
Seabrook Island Shorebird Steward Training
Saturday, March 7, 2026, 10:00 am– 12:00 pm
Oyster Catcher Community Center
The Seabrook Island Shorebird Stewards perform a significant service to the shorebirds that visit or nest on Seabrook Island. No special skills are needed to be a Shorebird Steward, just a willingness to spend time on the beach interacting with beach walkers. Volunteers spend two-hour shifts on the beach greeting beachgoers and educating them about the shorebirds and how to protect shorebirds from disturbance. The Stewards can be on the beach any day between March 1 and until at least May 25. If shorebirds like the American Oystercatcher, Least Tern, or Wilson’s Plover nest on Seabrook Island, the season may extend through around July 6. Stewards schedule as many, or as few, two-hour shifts as they are willing to work. Each shift can have two people.
The training is for new or returning Shorebird Stewards. The session on Saturday, March 7 is indoors provided by South Carolina Audubon. It teaches why Stewards are so essential and valuable. Participants will learn how to interact with people, be introduced to the educational material available to use while on the beach and discover information about the birds they might see. Additional field training will occur through a process of mentorship with seasoned Stewards.
Teens 14-18 years old may register as shorebird stewards but must be accompanied by a parent while on the beach. Both parent and teen will be required to complete classroom, field training & mentor session.
Please register for training no later than March 3, 2026. All registrants will receive a confirmation letter the day prior the event.

St. Christopher Community Square Dance Night March 14
Calling one and all, young and old, beginners and experienced! St. Christopher will be hosting its very own Community Square Dance Night.
Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, you are invited to square dance in our beachfront Recreation Hall located at 2810 Seabrook Island Road. Brad Tomlinson, an experienced and local square dance caller, will be leading the night. Don’t worry if you have never square danced before, Brad will explain the basics and direct the square dance flow.
As if this night couldn’t be any more fun, we will also have pie available for all participants in celebration of Pi Day (3/14). You haven’t truly experienced St. Christopher until you have enjoyed a slice of our famous mud pie.

A Note of Thanks
Thank you to all who attended and supported the Seabrook Island Garden Club Open House! It was a huge success despite the torrential downpours that evening.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us for this annual event. We realize that our words of thanks may not have reached everyone due to microphone issues that night, so we want to express our appreciation here.
On behalf of our 146 garden club members, thank you for supporting our philanthropic endeavors by purchasing raffle tickets. All proceeds from ticket sales directly fund these efforts, and we hope you noticed the poster by the raffle table highlighting our initiatives.
This success would not have been possible without the generous raffle donations from our garden club members and residents of the Seabrook community. We had an outstanding array of prizes!
A special thank you to our garden club members for their monetary and culinary contributions.
Finally, we would like to recognize our extraordinary party planner, Victoria Fehr, along with her talented and enthusiastic committee members, who orchestrated a lovely evening. They truly embodied our mission of “Promoting Friends, Flowers, and Philanthropy!”

Are you interested in helping preserve the sea turtles that visit Seabrook Island’s beaches? The Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol has been safeguarding sea turtles since 1990. If you would like to join the team, we are pleased to announce that we will welcome and train new members this year. If you are interested, please click here to provide your contact information and general availability no later than March 25, 2026.
A kick-off meeting will be held at the Lake House on Thursday, March 26, beginning at 6:00 pm. At the meeting, you will get a brief overview of the program and a description of the various teams that you can sign up for. As a member of the Seabrook’s Island Turtle Patrol, you will be required to purchase a Turtle Patrol tee shirt, so please bring a check.
New members will also have an in-depth training session on Saturday, March 28. Further details will be forthcoming.

Postponed: What’s the Buzz? Garden Club Open House now February 15
After much discussion and careful consideration, we have decided to postpone the Open House due to weather concerns. The new date for the event is February 15.
We want to ensure that as many Seabrook residents as possible can come out and enjoy the evening. With the recent publicity surrounding snow and freeze warnings for Saturday night, we believe it is in everyone’s best interest to reschedule.

Learning About Loggerhead Turtles
The Town of Kiawah announced the first in a new series of educational programs called Kiawah Conversations. The inaugural program, entitled “Kiawah’s Loggerhead Turtles: Genetic Tagging of Ancient Mariners”, will take place on Thursday, January 29, 3:00 pm at Kiawah Town Hall. The speaker is Dr. Brian Shamblin from the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia.
