A big thank you to all who joined us for our second session on Invasive Plant Species. If you missed our first two workshops, you are in luck.
The third and final workshop in this series will take place at our Temple Conference Center on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 6:00 pm. All are welcome to join us. We will be sharing data we have received from the trail cameras on our property. In addition, we will discuss the biodiversity of St. Christopher and how to live alongside wildlife. Jared Crain, Director of the Barrier Island Environmental Education Program, will be leading the night!

Inspired by the Lowcountry’s beautiful landscape, St. Christopher is pleased to offer art classes to the public. All skill levels are welcome. We will be hosting classes on January 27 and January 28, 2026, in our Conference Center Building.
In each class, participants will be guided through an acrylic painting of a marsh landscape by one of the professional artists who are part of our Artist Residency Retreat. Pamela Wingard will lead the class on January 27 from 4:00 – 6:30 pm. Sarah Jane Tart will lead the class on January 28 from 5:30 – 8:00 pm.
The participant cost of each class is $50. There are 15 spots available for each class. Light refreshments will be provided. To purchase a registration spot, please visit this link. What are those beautiful white birds that flock to the trees around the lakes? Why do they roost there? Is it a seasonal thing?
Recently, there are large numbers of the Great and Snowy Egrets and White Ibis that pour into the trees and shrubs around lakes on Seabrook Island. They have been spotted at the Lake House, Jenkins Point, etc. There are also Wood Storks hanging around the pond in front of the Lake House.

Welcome to St. Christopher Barrier Island! We are excited for a weekend full of new experiences, education, and most importantly, fun! We will offer a range of activities from a walk through the salt marsh to our infamous mud pit, a hike through our maritime forest, learning and meeting some of our local species, singing campfire songs, and more!
You and your household will have the opportunity to experience classes like Let’s Sea, Woods/Creatures of the Marsh, Herpetology, Scales & Tails, Lost & Found, Ocean Impact, Campfire, Dance, Nocturnal Wildlife, and Noodle Hockey, with lodging in our cabins and meals included!
We look forward to welcoming families and households with children aged 0-grade 12 to our Barrier Island Family Weekend program. This camp is intended for families and households with children, not for groups of exclusively adults.

King Tide is a commonly used term describing high tides that are higher than normal. They usually occur during a full or new moon or during specific seasons throughout the year. Charleston’s average high tide range is about 5.5 ft., but during a King Tide event, it can reach 7 ft. or higher.
King Tides can cause flooding in low-lying areas, resulting in road closures on Seabrook Island, as well as the Johns Island and Charleston areas. This is particularly true when a king tide coincides with significant rain and/or wind.

We are excited to announce new programming coming this fall! All are welcome to join us at St. Christopher Camp & Conference Center for our new Sustainability Workshop series.
A big THANK YOU to all who attended our first Sustainability Workshop on rain barrels! Tyler Harris, Associate Director of the Barrier Island Environmental Education Program, provided us with a comprehensive overview of the components and purposes of rain barrels. Participants also had the opportunity to see some of the ways our staff is implementing water conservation on St. Christopher’s property.
The second workshop in this series will take place in our Temple Conference Center on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 6:00 pm. All are welcome to join us. We will be discussing invasive plant species in our area and what you can do about them.
