The Seabrook Island Water Treatment Facility currently has an ~8M gallon holding pond for treated water. The water moves from the pond to either the Seabrook or Oak Point golf courses. During certain times of the year and during large rainstorms this pond is too small. The Seabrook Island Utility Commission (SIUC) is beginning a pond expansion project in the next couple of weeks. The ~$12M project includes new piping and pumps as well as a doubling of the size of our holding pond. We expect the project to be complete in approximately one year. There should be no disruption to either our Seabrook water supply business or our sewer treatment plant.
Seabrook residents can expect to see some truck traffic at the top of the island between the SIPOA gate and our facility located near the community gardens and Seabrook Island Club Maintenance Complex. The majority of the trucks can be expected between February and summer and nearly all will be carrying dirt to raise the sides of our holding pond.
Article 2 – Seabrook Island Water Tank Upgrades
Beginning in November, the various cell phone carriers that utilize the top of the Seabrook Island Water Tank will be leading a six month project to upgrade supports to the tank. The first step in the process will be the construction of a temporary tower to be located near the water tank. This tower will hold the cell phone carrier equipment that must be removed from the water tank prior to starting the water tank work.
Once the tank work is complete, the cell carriers will move their existing and, as we understand it, improved equipment back to the Water Tank and the temporary tower will be removed. This project is being led by Verizon. Although SIUC is not involved in the technical aspects of the cellular equipment moves/improvements, it seems reasonable to expect some disruption of cell service while the work is on-going. If you experience cell signal strength issues during this time please let your carrier know.

Town of Seabrook Island Wednesday, October 30, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Now is the time to organize your files and discard old, unneeded or duplicate documents. Gone are the days where we have to keep backup pieces of paper. Most information is now available online and is easy to access.
This is also good time to think of going paperless. Many companies such as banks, credit cards and insurance companies offer this service. Not only is it safer, but it can also be helpful when you are away from home. A bonus is using less paper, which is good for the environment!
Since most of your documents probably have personal information, you don’t want to just throw them away. The best way to dispose of these documents is by shredding them.
On October 23, 2024, Town Council adopted Emergency Ordinance 2024-01 in an effort to protect beachgoers (and their pets) from hazards resulting from the ongoing sand scraping and seawall repair projects.

Columbus Day/Indigenous People Day is Monday, October 14, 2024.
Columbus Day is a federal holiday but not a South Carolina state holiday. It commemorates Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas. Indigenous People Day is not a national holiday, although some states (not South Carolina) celebrate Native American customs and heritage on this day.
The federal holiday means non-essential federal government offices are closed and every federal government employee is paid for the holiday. The US Post Office locations will be closed with no delivery service on this federal holiday. The U.S. government recognizes 12 federal holidays: 11 annually and Inauguration Day every four years.
Since the State of South Carolina does not recognize either Columbus Day or Indigenous People Day as a state holiday, some businesses that are normally closed on a federal holiday may or may not be open. You should check with your local bank, credit union, school, etc. Some will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2024, and others will not.
The local holiday hours are as follows:
SIPOA offices will be open Monday, October 14, with normal hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Contractors may work on Monday.
Town of Seabrook Island offices will be open on Monday, October 14, with normal hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Vincent’s Pharmacy will be open Monday, October 14, with normal hours.
Post and Computer Center will be open Monday, October 14, with normal hours.
Harris Teeter will be open Monday, October 14, with normal hours.
