The Opera Lite Experience at Seabrook

Beginning in 2002, the intriguing world of opera – its history, development over 400 years, cultural context, and performance – has been presented on Seabrook Island during the fall and winter months. Many residents and guests have enjoyed these sessions. But it is hoped that many more, perhaps unaware of their existence, will choose to include them in their Island activities.

Each opera is self-contained in the 90 minute session with the opera shown in an abridged fashion featuring the high points. Each week brings a different production with the works ranging from current to vintage. These sessions are informal and fun with performances supplemented by text subtitles in English. The voices and acting are amazing. You may be surprised how dramatic and enjoyable this art form can be. All sessions are FREE and previous exposure/knowledge of opera is not necessary.
Indeed, newcomers are encouraged to give it a try.
Join us on Thursdays from 3:30PM to 5:00PM for enjoyment mixed with enlightenment as we bring back our Opera Lite Series beginning Thursday, January 5th.

Schedule of Operas

1/5 – LUISA FERNANDA
1/12 – CARMEN
1/19 – DON CARLO PART I
1/26 – DON CARLO PART II

2/9 – TANNHAUSER
2/16 – THE BARTERED BRIDE

Reservations not Resolutions to Ring in the New Year!

Tired of making perennial promises every January 1 to forgo Manhattans, prime rib, and crème brûlées until you lose 50 pounds? If so, why not begin 2017 not by giving something up, but by committing to an evening of decadent indulgence? (All for a good cause, of course!) Start the new year by reserving your place at the annual Seabrook Island Green Space Gala to be held on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Don’t delay! Seating is limited; last year’s reservations sold out quickly. Individuals, couples, or groups of friends (maximum of ten per table) are all invited to enjoy a delicious dinner and both a live and silent auction for just $75.00 per person. The evening promises to be a delightful and fun-filled way to contribute to our community goal of guaranteeing that Seabrook is always “Trending Green.” Beginning January 1 reservation forms will be available at the Lake House and can also be downloaded from our website, http://www.sigsc.org. Please make checks payable to Seabrook Island Green Space Conservancy. Kindly mail or drop checks off with completed reservation forms to:

Paula Adamson
2500 Cat Tail Pond
Seabrook Island, SC 29455

Green Space Directors will also be in the Lake House lobby on both Saturday, Jan. 7th and Saturday, January 14th from 9 am – 1 pm to accept reservations and checks. Please remember that reservations are not complete without payment and that we are unable to place charges to Club accounts. Who knew that making and keeping a New Year’s resolution could be so easy and fun?

Questions? Call or email Jeri Finke (843-789-4411) or Paula Adamson (843-768-4881).

December 7th Abridged Safety & Security Minutes

The following is an abridged summary of the minutes from the December 7, 2016 Safety & Security meeting. A complete copy of the minutes is available in the archives section of the SIPOA website at http://www.associationvoice.com/ResourceCenter/15432/Library

Committee discussion topics:
• Trash Dumping Special Committee report: Dennis reviewed with the committee the results of the special meeting on trash dumping. Following much discussion, the S&S Committee unanimously recommended adding a $100 fine option to allow more flexibility based on the severity of the violation. Dennis will make this recommendation to the SIPOA Board.
• Uber Issue: The Committee reviewed the procedure for Uber admission through the gate, concluding that if the passenger has a pass no special permission is required.
• Passing on the roads policy: The Committee discussed a property owner concern regarding passing on SI roads, concluding that the current policy is in the SI bylaws and should stand.
• Gate passes for contractors: The Committee reviewed the SIPOA policy regarding admission of contractors through the gate, concluding that this is an operational decision. This procedure will be reviewed further after upgraded software is added when the new gatehouse is completed.
• COVAR: The Committee discussed the authority of SI Security to enforce parking violations.
