Tornado Watch In Effect

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 1 pm today for Charleston County. A tornado watch is issued when conditions are favorable for tornadoes there is no imminent danger.

If a tornado watch becomes a tornado warning, a tornado has been spotted from the ground or detected by radar, and people within the warning area need to take shelter immediately. If there is a tornado warning, it is important to stay in the lowest level of a home/building in an interior room away from windows until the warning has passed.

Residents should now:

  • Prepare a space in an interior room on the lowest level with no windows to stay in, if needed.
  • Register for the CodeRed emergency alert system if not already signed up. Sign up here.

Showers and thunderstorms are also likely throughout the day; some of these storms could be severe. Residents should never drive through waters of unknown depths and avoid traveling during severe storms if possible.

It is important for residents to stay tuned to local weather stations for the latest updates throughout the day.

SIAG January Art Demo and Workshop with Greg Barnes

Seabrook Island Artist Guild (SIAG) welcomes Greg Barnes –
Demonstration – January 6 @ 1:30 pm at Oyster Catcher
Workshop – January 7-8 @ 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at Oyster Cather

Greg got his formal training at Wake Forest University, receiving a BFA in 1985. Following college, Greg’s career path included technical illustration, computer graphics, computer-based training, and multimedia programming. Throughout those years, he always kept his art supplies close at hand.

In 2002 after 9/11, he and his family took a leap of faith and he began pursuing a full-time fine art career. Among his first commissions were portraits, where pastel became his medium of choice. Greg enjoys painting on location, and as a result of working quickly, leans towards impressionism. Strong design and a bold use of color round out Greg’s style.

Maintaining a studio in Charlotte NC, Greg travels the country, participating in art festivals and plein air events, while also teaching workshops.
