Music & Movie at Freshfields This Week

Freshfields Village begins it Starlight Cinema Series this Wednesday, June 19, from 8:30 pm – 10:30 pm. The featured movie is Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse.

The Music on the Green Summer Series at Freshfields continues this week with live music on Friday, June 21, by Diverse Groove from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

New Stop Sign In Freshfields

If you haven’t been to Freshfields lately, you may not know that there is a new stop sign. It is located on Village Green Lane near the Seabrook Island entrance. It protects the pedestrian crossing from WonderWorks near the Village Green to Beija Flor Jeans across the street.

Officers have been stationed there periodically to remind people about the stop sign. The stop sign is in the middle of the block. Drivers need to be attentive to people using the crosswalk.

Please be careful driving as well as crossing the street.

Farmer’s Market Returns to Freshfields

The summer Farmer’s Market returns to the Freshfields Village Green this Monday, June 3, 2019 and will be held weekly on Mondays from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm throughout the summer.

You can browse the freshest produce and local specialty food items, including certified organic produce, fresh seafood, packaged and prepared foods.

Also, don’t forget the “Music on the Green” series continues this Friday, May 31, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the Village Green. The featured band is HiCaliber (formerly Port Authority Band.) The concert is free and everyone is encouraged to bring a beach chair or blanket.

Memorial Day 2019 Weekend Holiday Hours

Holiday hours for the Memorial Day Weekend 2019 are as follows:

SIPOA Offices will be closed all day on Monday, May 27. They will open for normal hours (8:00 am until 4:00 pm) on Tuesday, May 28. Trash, recycling and yard debris will be picked up as normal on Monday, May 27.

Town of Seabrook Island Offices will be closed all day on Monday, May 27. They will open for normal hours (8:00 am until 4:00 pm) on Tuesday, May 28.

Harris Teeter will be open all weekend, including Memorial Day, with normal hours.

Vincent’s Drug Store & Soda Fountain

The pharmacy will be closed on Monday, May 27, and reopen on Tuesday, May 28, for normal hours (9:00 am until 6:30 pm.) Note that their normal hours on Saturday are from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm and they are closed on Sunday.
The retail store will be open Saturday, May 25, from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm; Sunday, May 26, from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm; and Monday, May 27, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. They will reopen Tuesday with normal hours.
The soda fountain will be open Saturday, May 25, from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm; Sunday, May 26, from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm; and Monday, May 27, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. They will reopen Tuesday with normal hours.

Post and Computer Center will be closed all day on Monday, May 27. They will open for normal hours (9:00 am until 6:00 pm) on Tuesday, May 28.

Freshfields: Memorial Day Concert Series May 24 and 25

The Memorial Day Weekend Concert series at Freshfields features two evenings of live music on the Village Green. The series will feature Java Band on Friday, May 24, 2019 and The Coppertones on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Freshfields Village Summer Events

Freshfields Village, located at the crossroads of Kiawah and Seabrook Islands, announces the return of their summer programming with outdoor events held weekly on the Village Green starting Memorial Day weekend and continuing through Labor Day Weekend.

Come Memorial Day weekend, the summer events kick off with a special, two-night Music on the Green series, held Friday, May 24, 2019 and Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the Village Green. The weekly series continues every Friday, May 31, 2019 through August 30, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This family friendly, outdoor concert series will feature local groups and top acts from across the Southeast in all genres of music. The concerts are free, and guests are encouraged to bring a beach chair or blanket.

On Wednesday, June 19, 2019 Freshfields Village will host the first Starlight Cinema event of the season. The series of film screenings will take place each Wednesday through August 21, 2019 at 8:30 pm on the Village Green. Guests can bring a blanket, chair and picnic and enjoy a free, family-friendly outdoor movie. This year’s series will feature the year’s biggest hits including Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse, Mary Poppins Returns, Incredibles 2, and The Grinch (2018).

Gullah Celebration Says Thanks

Saturday, May 4, 2019 started out with ominous dark grey clouds looming just across the Kiawah River, but the threatening rain stayed away for what turned out to be near perfect weather for the 5^thAnnual Gullah Celebration held on the Freshfields Village Green.

SIHAF Over 800 hundred people visited this year’s event, the major fundraiser for the Sea Islands Hunger Awareness Foundation (SIHAF). Thanks to the generosity of so many, over $135,000 was raised to support the Foundation’s programs providing healthy food and clean water to families in need from Johns and Wadmalaw Islands.

Seabrookers were especially supportive of the festival with financial sponsorships, auction item donations and purchases, and ticket sales. In addition, nearly 100 volunteers sold tickets, served food and beverages, managed the silent auction, handled set-up and clean-up and made sure the event ran smoothly. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, talent and resources to make this event so successful.

The outreach projects supported by SIHAF include Water Wellness Mission, Sea Islands Blessing Basket, and Crockpot Cooking Class, as well as several other food distribution programs which are familiar to the many Seabrookers who volunteer so enthusiastically to make these efforts possible. Reminder: Gullah Celebration – May 4 Rain or Shine

On Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, the Green at Freshfields Village will be the site of the Fifth Annual Gullah Celebration to support the Sea Islands Hunger Awareness Foundation (SIHAF). The festivities will be held under the largest tent ever erected on the green, so please come, rain or shine!

This fun and fundraising event features music, a silent auction, craft vendors, and a children’s art show. Gullah cuisine as well as beer, wine and iced tea will be available for purchase. Live musical performances by Deninufay African Dance and Drum Production at 3:15 pm and Ann Caldwell and Magnolia Singers at 4:30 pm will be among the highlights of the afternoon.

General admission is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets are available through the SIHAF website, as well as at Indigo Books. Food and drink tickets can also be purchased in advance or at the event.

Boone Hall Lowcountry Strawberry Festival April 25-28

A weekend of fun for the whole family at Boone Hall Plantation! Exciting rides for All ages, giant rock climbing wall, all American petting zoo, K-9’s In Flight (an acrobatic dog show), three story slide tower, costume characters, live music, contests – family attractions galore.

Of course, strawberries are the highlight of the festival. U-Pick Strawberries will be available during event daytime hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the festival until 5:00 pm as long as berries are available.

The festival takes place on the farm portion Boone Hall Plantation located 1/2 mile North of Long Point Road on Hwy. 17, Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Reminder: Drug Take Back Day Saturday April 27

Do you have unused or expired prescriptions in your medicine cabinet? Not only are they taking up space, but they can be harmful if someone else, other than whom they were prescribed for, accidentally takes them. According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the majority of abused prescription drugs came from family and friends, frequently from a home medicine cabinet.

The problem is how to dispose of them. Throwing them in the trash is obviously not the solution. Once they are in the landfill, they can be picked up by people or animals. Flushing them down the drain can pollute the water system.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is a safe way to dispose of these prescription drugs.
