Prescription Take-Back Day
Once again, Vincent’s Drug Store in Freshfields will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Take-Back Day to properly dispose of unneeded medications. Bring your unused or expired medications (no liquids) to the store for proper disposal on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Don’t forget the Habitat for Humanity Restore. They will pick up gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more throughout the year. Call (843) 559-4009 for pickup or drop it off at the Restore on 3304 Maybank Hwy, Johns Island, SC. Click here for more details.

Veterans Day Friday, November 11

Veterans Day is a day to reflect on the sacrifice and courage of all U.S. Veterans. It is the day that our country honors and thanks those men and women for their service.

Since Veterans Day is a federal holiday, banks, government offices, and the Post Office will be closed on Friday, but the Wall Street stock exchanges will remain open. Vincent’s Pharmacy, The Post and Computer Center, Harris Teeter and SIPOA office will all be open. The Town of Seabrook Island will be closed on Friday, November 11.

To hear the official Veterans Affairs march Salute to Veterans, composed by COL Eugene W. Allen and performed by The United States Army Band, Pershing’s Own, click here.

Some Background on Armistice Day and Veterans Day

November 11, Armistice Day, marked the end of World War I. On “the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month,” in a forest near the French city of Compiègne, French, British, and German leaders met and signed an armistice that officially ended “the war to end all wars” that claimed the lives of more than 16 million people over four years.

President Woodrow Wilson originally proclaimed November 11, 1919, as Armistice Day to honor the country’s servicemen who served during World War I. The date wouldn’t become a National Holiday until a Congressional Act in 1938 made it so. It would remain a holiday for this select group of soldiers, sailors, and marines until President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill that expanded its intention to celebrate the service of all servicemen and servicewomen from every American war.

It would remain known as Armistice Day for the next 35 years until Congress changed its name to Veterans Day on June 1st, 1954. That name has remained unchanged ever since. The date of the Veterans Day celebration has also remained unchanged, except for a brief period of seven years when it was changed to the fourth Monday of every October in 1971 to make sure that it complied with the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. This decision was eventually reversed in 1978 and this holiday has been celebrated on November 11 ever since.

Prescription Take-Back Day Saturday, Oct 29

Once again, Vincent’s Drug Store in Freshfields will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Take-Back Day to properly dispose of unneeded medications. Bring your unused or expired medications (no liquids) to the store for proper disposal on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

If you are not currently on Seabrook Island, click here to see the location near you that is participating in DEA’s Take-Back Day.

This is the time to check your medicine cabinet for unused or expired prescriptions. Not only are they taking up space, but they can be harmful if someone else, other than the person for whom they were prescribed, accidentally takes them.

It is very important to dispose of medications safely. Throwing them in the trash is obviously not the solution. Once they are in the landfill, they can be picked up by people or animals. Flushing them down the drain can pollute the water system. The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day provides a safe way to dispose of prescription drugs. Drop off your unused or expired medications (no liquids) at Vincent’s Drug Store in Freshfields Village on Saturday, October 29, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

If you have any questions call Vincent’s at 843-243-0007.
